SHAME on you Sony!

i'm not saying it isn't worth the effort. but the worst that could happen is they could provide an answer that only exacerbates the situation.

Why not contact Sony directly and let them know you feel taken advantage of, and that you think other rebates are in order? I mean, what's the worst that could happen - they say no? Then you're no worse off, right?

Sony has been unusually responsive and proactive with the f3 and fs100. Maybe they would be open to a constructive dialogue with their disenfranchised customers?

I just wrote to them. We'll see if there is a response. Frankly, I'm a bit surprised more people haven't expressed that opinion and done something proactive.

I had a thought earlier about how to reduce our loses if Sony divisions outside of the US refuse to introduce the same deal.

Those in the US already owning the portable full priced S-Log sell it at a reduced price to one of us overseas, and then purchase the $899 S-Log. You make some money back, and we get cheaper S-Log.

Now what's a fair price for the original S-Log?

I rec'd an email from a Sony rep in response to my complaint. He wants to talk on the phone next week.

Post any specific requests for modification of their program and I'll see what issues or suggestions I can raise with him.

I think a wider swath of discounted items is not too much to ask. Monitors. Batteries. SxS cards.

What I'd really like is $2781 of my money back, but I can't imagine that happening.

I just sent an email to my only contact at Sony as well. I'll see what happens.

The Rules Of Computing (and your video camera is a computer):
1) RTFM (Read The F****** Manual)
2) Never buy Version One of anything
2a) Never install Version X.0 of anything
3) Never hit "Send" after the first six pack

The rep that contacted me was not the little local sales rep. Its someone higher up and known to Sony people, so if you really have a suggestion let me know soon. I'm going to speak with him on Monday.

I've been VERY impressed with the contact with Sony. I've written them about the FS100 and got a call back in 2 hours. Just by submitting questions on the website. Within a day I was talking to someone pretty far up the chain. Very very cool. Duke, hope they can do something for you!

Duke,
Count me in on that conversation. I have the big $$ SLOG upgrade too and would like to see some better "consideration" than a discount on a lens I'd never want.
Thanks.

Yes I'm very curious as to why Sony is tweeting that their S-Log stock is running out so get your F3's in now. Isn't it a firmware update, how do you run out of firmware?

While I have not heard anything definitive, my guess is that they are simply taking the inventory of 32gb SxS cards encoded with S-Log and then repurposing the SxS cards. I doubt that they did a special run of the encoded cards. That would explain why there would be a limited inventory.

Well, they'll still need to do something special to lock it so the S-Log option can't be removed.

Maybe it just refers to an undisclosed number of reservation slots available... ie, how much bench time they're willing to spend on this promotion.

I just sent in my application for the S-Log update and was told the "Program" is on hold at this time, the Sony response:

Thanks for the inquiry. The program is currently on hold at this time. We will keep record of your information on file and call you with an update once we are notified by Product Management. .
