SGpro Day 2!

All the focusing seems to be getting real dialed in....I really liked the last shot with the clothing pins...I'm guessing you did some CC as well?

If you ever get bored with your SGpro you can let me borrow it!

rvvac - yeah its NJ, all it is is forest, especially my area.
roadkill475 - focusing was easier today then it was yesterday so i hope it will continue to get easier. i wanted to see how well i could single out each clothes pin while leaving the rest out of focus...it worked nicely. it looks real nice on the tv compared to my site. i edited it a littke, mainly the curves to make it richer looking, and some contrast and i used the 3 way on some of the footage that looked too cold to warm it up a bit.

i doubt ill ever get bored of the sgpro, sowwie.

I'm curious, do you have any pics of your rig all setup ? What is the setup ?

EDIT:

I found your other post. Very nice indeed !

good work.. loved the RJD2 beat.

love the clothes pin focusing too.

how much did your new rig cost?

Thanks KD
I just got the adapter by itself plus the SG rails which came to 1024USD + 40USD for the shipping when it arrived (had to write a check for the UPS lady). The lens was about 110USD from B&H, cheapest I could find. And I got the Cavision shoulder and hand support pieces off ebay for 115USD instead of the 185USD B&H charges. I originally had my handle grips at the very front of the rails (infront of the adapter) and it was the hardest thing to hold. I just moved the grips under the adapter so I can keep my elbows bent when I shoot, works much better.

Hey Steven, Great looking footage, Can I ask how do you get it to look so clean, and with the 50mm 1.8 how do you get so much light?

I have a nikkon 50mm 1.4 with the sgpro rev 3 and i seem to struggle to get enough light... When I bump the gain up ,it ends up getting grainy.

Can I ask what you use for camera settings? Are you using a scene setting, or what custom settings if you use them? How do you set your iris, and gain?

Also what do you use to render the footage, how are you compressing it?

Any info I really appreciate..

Also I don't know if you can answer this question, but on your lcd screen, if you adjust the brightness and contrast, does that effect how the footage is filmed.... for instance if I up the brightness, will the footage be captured like that? I just assumed that it doesn't so I lowered the brightness to make myself try to let more light in because when I upload it to my computer it always comes out darker.

Joe.

awesome. thanks for the info. looks great and not that expensive. which is nice to know. keep up the good work dude.

KDunne - You are welcome...it is a very good price for how powerful it can be with the right finesse (still trying to get that)

Mr. Joe - Thanks for the compliment, it was still the second day of using the adapter, but it came out pretty cool looking. The 1.8 lens works great outside for me, I could easily blow out my picture so everything is pure white, so I am not sure why a 1.4 would have problems. Make sure to check that your iris is open on both the camera and the lens itself, the ND filter isn't being used and your shutter speed isn't high. I am pretty sure for this day of shooting I probably had the aperature of the lens at 1.8 and the iris on the DVX at probabaly 5.6. I usually shoot outside with a shutter speed of 120 or 250 because I like the way it looks, but I am still experimenting. I don't mess with the gain unless I am inside and it doesn't look too ugly, and my scene file was the stock 24pa I think.

When I export it for my site, I like to export as 4x3 Uncompressed Quicktime with the best settings it allows. Once that is done, I open it up as a Quicktime movie and export it again from Quicktime. For this video I am pretty sure I just exported it as a premade setting called like "Hi Quality Broadband" or "LAN quality" something like that. I use the H.264 setting also. It gets pretty decent results. You can do this right from your NLE I think, but I am using Vegas and it always acts up when I export as compressed from inside of it.

About the LCD, I never touched my settings, but I don't think it will change anything other than what is being viewed. Like if you are recordings something off your television onto a VHS tape, and you screw with the TV settings, the VCR will record what it is getting from the source and it will look normal.

I hope that helps a little. I also play with the curves of my footage, I brighten it up just a little, and make the blacks blacker.

Thanks Steven,

Thats what I figured...

Outside I usually don't have a problem, it does become overexposed on a sunny day, Its inside, it seems like sometimes Its hard to get enough light in with the iris fully open on the camera and the lens with out bumping the gain up to mid level, Maybe its just the lighting in doors is poor.

Thanks a lot for your help, much appreciated.

Joe.
