  • Mislabelled as MKE 102 - actually:
  • Sennheiser lavalier MKE 2 w Lectro TA-5 connector & K3 power supply with 2 position low cut roll off. (MKE 2-3)- $150 shipped

  • This is a top quality mic indistinguishable from a Sonotrim and to my ears better than a Tram.
(Don't confuse with much cheaper ME-2 that comes with the G2 and G3)
The TA-5 connectors allow you to use the mic with a wireless or other power supply.
Likewise the K3 power supply is the older style that takes a small 6V PX23 battery instead of the newer version K6 that uses AA.
  • Can be run off camera's phantom power ( using K3 without battery) or independently using battery power in the K3.

  • Functionally and audio quality is very similar to the modern MKE 2-60/K6 at B&H that sells for $599
Comes with tie clip and a few other access. No windscreen but that can be purchased easily from B&H
  • BTW these can be converted to use with a sennheiser G3 just by purchasing an adapter cable to go from TA-5 to the G3 mini connector. That's how I run my G3's and you can have a few made up at Location Sounds for less than $50.

This looks like an MKE 2 lavalier (most likely MKE 2-3 as I believe that was the version typically attached to the K3U power supplies). The model should be printed on the small black rectangular plastic near the base of the cable.

MKE/ME 102 is actually a different interchangeable capsule mic with different specs from the MKE 2. The omnidirectional screw-on capsule is model ME 102, while MKE 102 refers to the ME102 capsule + KA100 cable. Sennheiser also sells ME 104 cardioid and ME 105 hypercardioid capsules that screw on to the KA100 cables.

This MKE 2 + K3 configuration is probably most similar to the Sennheiser MKE 2-60 with K6 power supply combination. The biggest difference being that the K6 power supply can run off of a AA battery while the K3 power supply uses PX23 batteries (which were mercury oxide, or S23PX silver oxide as a mercury-free replacement). Both can also use phantom power instead of battery power.

Sennheiser should really improve their often-confusing model naming scheme. For example, the MKE 2 is actually a fairly high end lavalier mic, but I'm sure lots of people have avoided it, because it is often confused with the lower end ME 2 mic which is bundled with Sennheiser Evolution wireless sets. But despite what the small one letter difference the model name might suggest, they are actually totally different mics. As is the ME 10x series (ME 102/104/105).

Dave was right and I corrected my original post calling this a MKE102.

The MKE -2 now more often is sold as the MKE -2 Gold but the only difference is that the Gold has a pad to lower sensitivity for performers who often belt it out. Standard MKE -2 is actually more suited for video production.
