Send us your AF100 footage to watch on a movie screen in NYC!

A new concept: send us up to a 2 minute clip of your film or test footage, and we’ll watch it on a big screen in New York City!

Thanks to Frank and Andy at Abel Cine, who have decided to sponsor this event after seeing the interest for it on this forum, it is confirmed that this event is going to happen, and here are the tentative details:

Where?
-May 17th at 7PM at Anthology film archives
What?
-Footage we will show will be from anyone who sends footage in. There is no cost to send in footage, this is an open collaborative event.
With?
-The primary focus is the AF100, but footage from other relevant cameras will be accepted

Send in your test comparisions, a clip of your film, anything that shows the camera's abilities:

-Narrative or comparative
-under 2 minutes in length
-Cameras: AF100 or other camera in it’s price bracket
-Other cameras: Red, F3, other cameras BELOW $20,000 body price.
-DSLR

In addition, a printout of every clip’s details will be provided at the festival, so every submitter needs to send their shooting info, if you do not have the exact info, just estimate it and put it in parenthesis( )

For documentation please send in a text file, we won't be strict about it, but do try to be thorough:

Name(s)
Camera(s)
Shooting information for EVERY clip shown in your footage including:
F-stop
Shutter
ISO/Gain
Profile/Scene file information
ND filters used
Lenses
Focal Lengths
Optical Filters
Grading
Codec/Bitrate

Also, if possible please place on each clip the ISO, F stop, focal length, and shutter speed titled on the bottom of the frame. any information you do not now for sure, approximate it and put it in parentheses(). those details as well as other settings such as scene profiles/recording formats/grading/etc.. you will provide in a document.

Please be sure to make your titling as non obtrusive to the image as possible, keep in mind it will be on a much bigger screen, so even small text will be quite large. Here is how your titling should look:
title.jpg

*** Please: absolutely no advertising/credits/anything other that actual footage ***
This event is about the image, each submitter will get plenty of credit/recognition off screen.
______________

FTP info to send in file/footage:
FTP.mediahalo.com
User: ssguest
Pass: 32coconuts

Please be sure to name your film and your text file EXACTLY the same
(please don’t upload RAW. h.264(or comparable) @ a bitrate of 30-50mbit/sec should be just fine, Nothing over 1920×1080 please

Please do comment and make suggestions, this is an open collaboration, i'm simply making it all come together, if there are details you feel are missing or if something should be done in another way, suggest it!

Cheers!

I'd be happy to send a copy of the trailer for "A Verse Before Dying" for screening. I wouldn't be able to be there personally, unfortunately.

And thanks for pulling something like this together!

First off - Andy, thanks for supporting our members. This is extremely generous.

Secondly Jay - You want to include the short I shot for Fiction Fest? Take a look.

I'd love to send my piece on Salvation Mountain. But, unfortunately, i didn't record every F-Stop and metadata. I'm using Zeiss Standard Manual PL Primes, so i don't think the camera is capable of recording the metadata.

Noel, anyone's footage is welcome so long as its under 2 minutes and prepared properly(unless we start to get a huge flood of them, then i'll have to start picking and choosing)

Jon, good point, i don't want to exclude everyone who used manual lenses so for that i would say just estimate what was used and put it in parentheses so: (50mm) instead of 50mm, that lens information is mostly to give people an idea of the DOF characteristics
.

This is what I, and I'm sure a lot of people, are waiting for. I may hop on the train and see the results first hand. I really want to know how well this camera looks on the big screen. I think it looks gorgeous in some of the test shots folks from here are posting online. Me and another DVXer are collaborating and joining forces on a big feature project, and we'd like to know all of our options at every budget price point... From the AF100 all the way up to Film... Our movie will be made... budget will dictate how. Wouldn't it be great to set up 2 or 3 of these guys for coverage. Double "two shots" and a "wide" one for less then the price of one Red setup. Now that kind of efficiency would be huge with a low budget Indie. Looking forward to seeing this test.

another thought occurs as well, in addition to the user submitted footage, if anyone wants to gather with their cameras and do some studio controlled comparisons, i would be happy to arrange that. I have a af100, 5d, z1u, and Ex1, so a red, an f3, xlh1, or other camera in the sub 20K range would make sense to throw in there. I have studio access during the week.

imdjay, i have a prores master copy of Verse before dying, did Stephen provide you with the footage?

Stephen did mention his intent to send in the trailer, but has not yet done so. Would be happy to have it, all of the info to do so is in the original post

there is no deadline at the moment, but will likely be mid april or we'll just have to cut off submissions when we get enough to fill the time
