Send us your AF100 footage to watch on a movie screen in NYC!

i've loosened it to 4 min

Sounds great. I have a 3 minute piece that I filmed that I would love to submit and then about 1 minute of random footage shot all with AF100 that I would love to see. So it will be a 3 minute Test/narrative, then a few random shots that I think will look awesome on the big screen. Gonna Try and make it up next week as well.

Hey Stephen i just took a look into the folder and your file isn't in there. maybe the connection timed out before it finished uploading?

Just finished the .txt and h.264 .mov file upload to the server. I think I got everything right. Can't wait to see the stuff up on the screen. Thanks again. If there is any problems with the footage/text file let me know and I will gladly make necessary changes.

-James

PS: title of both files is To Catch a Zephyr and Other Assorted Clips. Just want to make sure you received it and have no problems.

I did recieve it james, and it's listed up on http://wp.mediahalo.com/test-fest/ with some of the other clips to be shown.

That, and we will be doing a fairly nice roundup of several cameras and will show that footage at testfest as well.

Stephen did you get my message about the trailer? the full length came in just fine but the trailer must have glitched, if you could toss it up once more that'd be lovely

I'd be interested in hearing people's thoughts on the screening. How did the AF100 fair? Any HMC150 footage? Wish I could have made it to this.

I was a little late, but I dont believe the HMC150 was included. The AF100 looked great though. Here is one of the test clips Darren and I shot for the screening with the AF100:

And here is the whole video of the whole low light candle test mainly shot with a 5D, EX1, and AF100:

I am sure Darren will post some more of the clips from the show up here later, but the AF100 really looked great on a big screen, even using the native codec (like we used in our tests). I had the pleasure of watching the ASC Single Chip Camera Evaluation hosted by Able Cine projected on a 2K projector the next day, and the AF100 looked just fine up there next to the big boys (F35, Alexa, RED, F3, etc), especially considering the cost difference....

DSLRs on the other hand were really soft in comparison to the other footage projected on the really high end projector at 2K (among other little issues they had), but on a the 1080p projector at TESTFEST, looked better than I honestly expected.... still not great though.

In all, the AF100 really is a great little camera that packs a lot of bang for your buck and looks on the great big screen, especially next to REDs and ALEXAs... Almost too good considering it costs 1/10 of many of the cameras it was projected next to. I feel now that I can honestly and confidently say to any client that my camera will look great when projected in a theater.

Also, a couple little things I found surprising at the screenings:
At TESTFEST, Darren put some GoPro footage up on the screen, and that footage looked better than any $300 camera has a right to (as long as it was fed alot of light). I was amazed, and want to get a case full of the little things now to put everywhere.

And at the ASC screening, the Nikon D7000 DSLR performed surprisingly well amongst the DSLRs... I think most people agreed it looked better the Canon DSLRs in alot of ways, and was noticeably sharper where the Canons were all soft. It still suffered like the rest of the DSLRs did, but not quite as badly. And I believe was the cheapest of the group as well.

overall, as expected, everything looked at least good. it's a misnomer that something will be less forgiving blown up that size, but it actually can be a lot more forgiving. footage that i prepared i know exactly what it looked like on my monitors, and it looked better on the big screen, much harder to see the noise/artifacts. but you need to take into account that we don't know how the projector was calibrated

My footage turn out alrite up on the screen? To catch and a zephyr and assorted clips. man i wish i coulda been there.

Saw AF100 footage at the SCCE at London, hosted by Philip Bloom. I thought it wasn't that great. I thought the DSLRs have better value for money!

I thought the event was great and showed how well these cameras can do in theatrical conditions. Hard to be conclusive due to the variety of production value and postproduction work in the clips but at the least it proved that basically all of these cameras can hold up on the big screen. I wrote more about my reaction here (tho it's GH2 oriented): http://the-hollywood-outsider.blogspot.com/

Yeah, I wish I could have been there. I hope our little western looked good on the big screen! Thanks for putting this together, Darren!

It of course looked great Stephen, and it showed the 'warmer' side to the camera :)

I have a thought about where to take this event. and i might be putting together a list of people who would like to be part of a group who will on the occasion all chip in to do just what we did this tuesday. We watched a lot of clips, about 70 minutes in all, and did a lot of discussion about many clips. and half those clips were extra clips from others who chipped in from around the world. i figure a small group of regular shooters can watch half the footage in half the time and even invite their clients if they so chose to, perhaps to see dailies, etc...

So if anyone is a regular shooter in NY and has the need/desire to see their footage up there, let me know and if we gather enough people so it would only be $20-50 per person, and we can migrate to a bar afterwards to talk shop(like myself, oliver, and mark did)

And i must give at least one more thank you to Andy and Rachael and the others at Abel for making this first event happen. I don't have the heart to ask them to sponsor another one just yet, i'd rather we the people cover some costs and then maybe abel can help us out in other ways if they so choose

on a last note, i have to think that this was the first 'remote controlled' festival ever. i brought in the patriot box office media player and had the files all plugged in, and propped up the box in the projection booth and that darned little remote worked(barely) from the front seats so we could pause, rewind, zoom in, etc... I'm so glad that worked out how i wanted it to. And the projectionist had possibly her easiest gig ever!

cheers

Just got a GoPro Hero Hd and have been testing it mounted to my bicycles handle bar. Every jolt of the road turns the image to jello. I'll try a helmet mount next where at least my neck will act as a shock absorber. Image quality is pretty good so long as the light is constant, otherwise it takes awhile for it auto iris to adjust. Not bad at all for a $269 camera.

i just shot 50 minutes of go pro in a bike race with the camera mounted to the handle bar and it was really good. get rid of every joint you can in the mount and screw the camera on to the handlebar clamp directly. You'll be surprised, pleasantly.

wow, this event was over a year ago. time flies far too fast

well, it just struck my brain to get this train rolling again. the end of this year is looking like quite a few new cameras will be out and people will want to see them blown up on the big screen

That being said, im up to the task of organizing it. that is if there is the interest of a few dozen people to contribute and attend.

So what say you folk? Should Test Fest v2 come to being?
