SDHC- Sandisk Extreme vs. Video HD

Hi,
I want the most reliable SDHC 16gb card for my GH1. I have researched on these forums and read that for video class 6 isn't even necessary, but I figure I will stick with it to be sure. I don't think it is worth it to try and save a few $$, in the long run- since I work professionally and if the card fails that is a total disaster for me. I have read to stay away from Transcend. Sandisk is pretty reliable. Is there a reason to pay $109 http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/produ...SDSDX3_016G_A31_16GB_Extreme_SDHC_Memory.html for the Sandisk Extreme vs. $47 http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/573894-REG/SanDisk_SDSDHV_016G_A15_16GB_Video_HD_SDHC.html for the Sandisk Video HD? I don't shoot in South Pole or anything.
Thanks,
SNS

I'd suggest to not buy the sandisk extremes. They tend to be overpriced and I think that they are 15mbps. If you go to newegg you'll find a lot of 8 and 16 gb sd cards for less than $50. Make sure you pick one up with a fast write rate though.

Oh, but is 30mbps really necessary? 1080p requires only 17mbps. It's your choice but I'd just go for one in new egg if your looking to save some cash.

No, I don't think 30mbps is necessary- i was just listing that because you thought the Extremes were only 15mbps. Again, my main concern is not saving cash, it is the highest reliability. Since people seem to have good luck with Sandisk, but people don't seem to value the Extreme over the VideoHD version, I'll just go for the less expensive of 2 equally reliable cards. I hope that is right. Thanks!

I use Panasonic's own 16GB. It is class 10 and so far I have not had any problems.

There always tends to be some confusion on camera versus card data rates. Here's some good reading: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Data_rate_units

I use 32gb Sandisk Class 4 Ultra cards (rated at 15MB/sec) in my GH1 with no problems at 1080p.

I use an 8gb Sandisk "VideoHD" Class 6 (also rated at 15MB/sec) SDHC card in my little Point & Shoot camera which shoots 720/60p no problems.

GH1 is only like 15mbps...so any of these cards are probably overkill. I'm no computer wiz, but I THINK that would mean that a card with a WRITE speed of 2MB/sec should work? I wouldn't bother with the Extreme...or Panasonic's for that matter.

Class ratings can vary GREATLY between manufacturers and even within their own product lines:

And speed ratings are usually for READ speeds...not write speeds. For example, the Transcend Class 6 32gb SDHC card is rated at 19.5MB/sec, but actually only writes at 7MB/sec. I had pretty good luck with Transcend cards in audio recorders and my Panny palmcorders, but the first one I tried in my GH1 failed miserably. I won't buy them for video anymore.

I'll stick with Sandisk for now. :)
