Its nothing to do with the compression settings. Ive messed around with the settings loads so they have changed since that was shot but at the moment they are at

DETAIL LEVEL--------------0
CHROMA LEVEL--------------0
CHROMA PHASE------------+3
COLOUR TEMP --------------0
MASTER PED ------------ -6
A.IRIS LEVEL ------------ -3

What would you normally have the settings at for shooting on a bright day?

Thanks

Is it looking like this while playing back from your camera onto a television, or after you captured it to your computer? If it is only after you capture to your computer then you might want to check your capture settings.
Is this a PAL camera?
Are you visiting Seattle?

Yeah its a pal camera, the picture looks like that in the viewfinder and on the LCD screen. Im actually an editor, my camera skills arent really that up to scratch as you can tell! Im from Scotland but im living in Seattle for the time being, im trying to get involved with some filmamking here but its proving harder than I thought!

Whats your gain set on? Looks like gain is way up and your having to compensate by closing down the iris.

I just checked the gain, it was set to low on the side of the camera and In the SW settings it the high was on 12 and the mid was on 12 so i turned them down but the picture still looks the same. frustrating.

Ok ive played around a bit more with it and it seems to be fine when everything is in focus but as soon as I take it out of focus im getting that posterized look. Anyopne else have any suggestions? It must be something simple that im just not getting.

thanks.

ok....but with my gain at the lowest setting and iris fully open it is still no different, teh picture is fine when it is in focus but as soon as its not im getting this posterized effect which is horrible.

From the picture, I would have said that the original image was significantly underexposed and then pushed in post. But you say you're seeing this on the LCD of the camera? And the focus part makes it even more bizarre.

Try resetting your white balance or changing to the 5.6K preset. Very infrequently I've gotten strange results when setting the WB although focus had nothing to do with it. Maybe it's time to hit the camera reset button. Write down your scene file settings first.
Good luck,
-Dan

Actually i am starting to get worried, ive just tried to reset it both ways and it still isnt working. I dont know how this has happened, i havent damaged the camera in anyway......i just messed with trhe settings a bit. ARRRRR:kali: GHHHHH

could you try to post a grab from a scene shoot in a low-lit internal (for example a table)? maybe we have the same problem...:crybaby:

wow, that is really messed up. That doesn't even look like a gain issue, it is just completely postuerized. And you say that's how it looks on the screen as well? Something is really not right.
Tell me, how are you capturing this footage? Are you capturing via fire wire? What capture application are you using?

Im capturing it via a firewire through final cut, the same way as ive always done. the problem is its on the LCD screen.....its the camera thats got an issue.

I have never seen anything like that for the 2 years that I have been using the camera. And you said you already tried resetting the camera, don't know what else it could be.
