Scarlet Update

why do people keep saying 3k for under 3k, I find it a bit immature, anyone with
half a brain knows that scarlet will not cost 3k

First, I don't appreciate the name calling. If anything, that's what's immature in this conversation.

How many RED ONE cameras came with a built in mic, zoom lens, flip out LCD, CF slots, etc. There's a lot more built in to Scarlet than there was with the RED ONE, so I'd say that the claim of 3K for $3k is pretty solid. 'Sides, it isn't like you can buy an EX1, HVX, or XLH1s without some supporting gear to go with it. You'd need a case, tripod, P2/SxS/MiniDV recording media, filters, mattebox, and whatever else you think you'd need.

Also, it is easy to talk about it like that... the HPX won't cost 5,500 either cause you need more than one battery and a second card, it also needs the adapter and all other accessories... If I had exact figures for batteries and cards I would try to figure out the total and use the number... STILL... nothing will come within light years from it.
I completely agree that anyone with half a brain would know these things... therefore we don't think they need be explained in detail... and as a matter of fact, it was touched on on this very thread briefly. Good point nonetheless. But I am trying to make you realize that we agree with you, I think I've called the 200 a camera body more than anyone here on DVX, so I am glad to see that someone else uses that word too...

OH! And one more thing, this is DVXuser, and anyone with an HVX that has visited this site once in their lifetime knows about the small companies that are redifining the "pro-sumer" market by making it possible to use them as camera heads... RR, Zacuto, SG, Letus...

we are all friends here plus so much stuff gets poorly interpreted on text

peace

Fair enough. No harm no foul.

I'm also wondering about the 35mm adapters. I've got an SGpro rev 3... but to be perfectly honest, I'm not sure how well it will hold up at such a high resolution.

I wonder if we'll have to wait (or upgrade) for a higher grade achromat and GG in order to get the grainless picture.

Any thoughts?

agreed 100%

no doubt that scarlet is the darknight of video cameras, so much anticipation!!
wow!!!

I see so many people with high hopes on scarlet, myself included
I just hope red lives or exceeds to what already has been announced :)

I have also thought about the GGs for 3k... after all there has never been a need for something like that, and it has never been done... it could even be a deal killer! I hope not... I am hoping that something like the SG Blade will be good enough... then you are talking about a $5,000 rig, and roughly $8,000 with the grips FF and MB from RR, then you add lenses and for $10,000 you have a crazy sick rig... take away the focus rack problems associated with Nikkors (assuming 3k will still be low enough for the Nikkor quality) and you have a MAJOR big camera killer! Oh! I forgot about the monitor, so round that off to $12,000 for a Zacuto monitor arm, good batteries in the back of the rails and a gorgeous Carrion... what a rig! Just make sure you realize that you WILL have focus problems since you will have no clue weather you are focused for cinema projection at full 3k if that's what you need to do... in that case you will need to dial in your Scarlet into that lens adapter just perfectly to make sure your witness marks work... and you definitely should consider renting a set of cinema lenses to help out with long focus throws... and an excellent 1st AC!

but hey... those are AWESOME problems to have with your personal rig!!!!

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!

Well put, my friend. I personally like the unique styles of Mr. Jannard... but to be honest, I wouldn't care if this thing looked like a milk carton. As long as it shoots at 3k, and is priced under 3k, I'll be one of the first in line.

Yep, me too

i'm torn between the hpx and the scarlet. Even with the gear and misc parts i have now, i dont know if i can really outfit a scarlet effectively. i mean batteries alone...whew

The little ones will go into the body, look at the pictures and you'll see them... they are a little lighter color, and VERY small... you can tell cause it says 12V on it... on the back side.

Jim just stated that within a week R3D files will open natively in Adobe CS3 Premiere and After Effects. Mac and PC.

I am really curious who is going to be selling the scarlet.....since RED says you cant pre-order and it will be sold via resellers....I really wonder who ....and I cant wait to have mine :)

Haven't been on this forum for a while and I thought I would share some info form scarletuser.

Scarlet has grown since NAB and so has the weight estimate. We now believe Scarlet will tip the scales at just under 4.5 pounds.

everyone else still on the edge of their seat? I know I should be posting this on scarlet user but, has anyone given thought to how there gonna mount the adapter to this thing. the rail setup would have to be quite strange. possibly a cage?

Does anyone have 2/3" frame grabs with the lenses set to 2.8f?

Just crunching some numbers on a dof calulator: and with a subject around 7 feet, its looking like you are going to get an equivalent DOF of shooting at around f8-f16 on a super35 format. Does that help give you an idea?

You of course can use longer lenses and get the subject closer to the camera and the back ground further away to help with this.
