Scarlet Update

I am interested to see where red ends up. I would also like to see something real...other then hype.

Maybe Scarlet will take vaporware title away from Duke Nukem Forever.

I don't understand people's urge to already call the Scarlet 'vaporware'

It was never intended to be released until NAB 2009
So how does an announcement of a redesign 7 months prior to that suddenly make it vaporware?

Pushing something back repeatedly over an extended period of time, that would be vaporware.
Just not the case with this.

Personally I appreciate that they announce things so early and keep peopel somewhat up to date.
At least we know what may be coming down the pipeline.

lol... how do you mean? bloated marketing schemes offering HD recordings as if they were not plagues with rolling CMOS problems? cause then I totally agree. Red's chips are blazing fast compared to DSLRs which are built for no more than 8 or maybe 15 fps... it is like they are selling something they don't already make... 120fps anyone? :D

I find myself tryping nothingness posts in like 4 diffrent threads waiting for dang Jannard to post some freaggin' specs or details since the announcement.

If it were to go up to $5,000 I'd be totally OK with it, but only if it included a very awesome decent range zoom like at east 25mm-80mm. Otherwise you are talking about getting some "cheap" lenses for $1,000 a piece or like $2,000 for a good zoom that is only meant for stills... though it would still beat the crap out of a 170 with a DOF adapter.

Oh crap... I totally wrote that last paragraph assuming a 35mm sensor.... too much nonsense posting... I better shut up... someone PM me when we hear something please. :)

"Time to kick some ass and chew bubble gum!"
"I'll rip your head off and shitt down your neck!"
"Damn I look good!"

Indeed Duke Nukem, the game announced more then 10 years ago, is still not out yet. As of right now, I don't think Scarlet is vapourware, but the fact of the matter is once Nikon and Canon released some serious fire power, Red felt the burn and decided to up their game. So let's assume someone is working on something super duper that we have yet to hear about, are they going to have to redesign again in order to compete with everything else that is coming out.

I am going to go ahead and say that the redesign is going to blow our minds, maybe full frame, interchangeable lenses etc....who knows.

Time will tell.

You guys have to understand one thing though... Jim is a camera guy, he sold Oakley for 2.1 BILLION... he already made Mysterium and RedCode... he already kicked out one camera so the manufacturers and the Red team already know what they are doing, this is going to be their second camera. What's stopping him from delivering?

And remember, he said NAB, and that they are going to make many many more this time around.

I'm sure the new scarlet will be a powerful tool and I plan to buy one unless there's some unforeseen disaster.

Red knows what there doing, be patient for specs. I'm sure they'll blow our mind at the pricepoint.

anyone who thinks like this has my complete trust in cam design,

On the new scarlet:

"This will be like getting a second generation camera instead of a 1st generation. Actually, much bigger than that...

What we are planning is the right thing to do no matter what. If you do the right thing... you just have a better chance at selling something. Our motivation is doing the best we can 1st. Then we let the success (or failure) be the judge of how well we did."

True. You can't praise or dump on something that doesn't exist. On a side not...they praised the McRib....and look what happened. Catastrophe.

Didn't NAB 2009 already passed us by? I am a little confused here. Did Scarlet come out and I missed it?

Lol, I don't think enough people get how much they should ALREADY be thanking Jim... THANKING HIM!!! ALREADY!!!

If only this blindness epidemic could be cured BEFORE Scarlet comes out...
