Seriously how is this supposed to be held? Anything we know for sure yet?

I don't see them sticking a strap on the side, but I also don't see how it could require rails and grips and a shoulder mount.

Its pro camera and not some sort of consumer home DV camcorder - so there will be inaf holes to screw additional grips and mounts just where you need it most - up, down, side, etc ... wake up
Never heard this questions about SI-mini which is in size of cigarette box

Lighten up, Francis. It's a simple question. :)

I didn't say anything about a "consumer home DV camera." But from appearances it seems closer to the HV20 then say the HVX in terms of ergonomics (both of which have straps).

yeah, what's wrong with questioning the camera's ergonomics? RED has continually said this is intended to be a fully functioning product out of the box. That means being able to comfortably hold it without having to use use additional mounts and grips.

It also isn't intended for the same market as Scarlet. Sure Scarlet will be used by more than a few industry professionals but a big chunk of the sales is going to come from the consumer/ hobbyists realm.

ergonomics is important - but I think that Scarlet is same concept like RED - naked body with lot of holes for rails and grips (except that original Red ones are expensive for me)
I definitely prefer variable add on big and stiff grip (or cage) then create some universal solution on a body.

Maybe idea of EX1 rotateable grip is solution for you. Dont know.

And yep I am definitely hobbyist (with pro twist :Drogar-BigGrin(DBG))

If you guys want to use it for fun, and there are lots of people that can buy $3k toys, then just shoot like it is a consumer picture camera... just grab it
But if you want to make 3K pro projects then everyone on any forums and their mothers realize that a camera is nothing but the camera and you always will need accessories cause there ain't no pro project that was shot ever with just a camera (Blair Witch people don't even think about it!) and I think that the cheaper the camera the more money left over for accessories so this camera will be a flat out winner let alone if it has crazy problems that simply will not happen... you might have some CMOS rolling shutter limitations but short of that it will be a kick ass camera BODY... you will need rails, everyone will need some sort of support... and you will need an other $10k to get it to being a rig that most pros would even consider shooting with...

Just get an adapter, RR Deluxe shoulder pad kit, RR MB, a Carrion, RR FF, batteries for the monitor and to balance....

AND since it is so small you VERY likely will be able to have the operator use the camera's LCD, then the Carrion and batteries in the back will balance it perfectly... unless you are using a BIG lens... I think this camera will rock the market... and unfortunately it will also rock Panasonic... not stop assuming, I didn't mean rock like they will go out of business.. guys just use some common sense...

I agree that RR Zacuto, Letus, SG and all the others will IMMEDIATELY (as in a few months ago) start coming up with toys for it cause this thing will be in TONS of households...

HOWEVER, I think that the Zrizer will indeed do the trick, or get any other riser you can find and done deal. Shiiet, just mount the camera upside down onto the adapter and you save on the flip hehe... it is tiny!

that doesn't seem to be what RED is saying about Scarlet. Everything I've read from the development team says that although there will plenty of people accessorizing Scarlet with lens attachments and support systems that it's designed to be ready to shoot out of the box. I even seem to remember one of the design members saying he prefers a stripped down Scarlet without any extra accessories.

Swardo, if you read what USLatin said a bit more carefully, I think you'll see that he did mention that you can shoot with it straight from the box (which is confirmed by the RED team, by the way). BUT, just like any other, it's just a camera, and there's potential to add much more to it if you desire.

Add the accessory's you need, if any, and put a talented group of people behind it, and go to work.:thumbup:

I just love this pic - pure functionality.
Camera is no more dominatig set, but quality of delivered picture is.
Yep old good film camera era is gone, so welcome to new era

 Yeah okay, film is dead. Not.

Nope. Film is ok, but yes industry is changing, accesibility to technology and hi quality too, but you still have to hardly work on your skill same old way to succeed... good luck :Drogar-BigGrin(DBG)

Just a rendering? Thats all?

I thought it was gonna be at least late 2010 before we see this camera in anyone's hands. Now I'm thinking mid 2011. Ick.

Will be happy to be proven wrong so I can grab mines. Still...

That dolly looks like overkill for a camera you could mount on a skateboard.
I bet Scarlet would make an awesome helmet cam for cinema!

I saw where he said it could be handheld and that's part of what I'm disputing. Don't get me wrong, I like what this camera represents. I will be selling my HVX for it and it will spend most of it's life on a tripod. Of course it can be handlheld, it just looks like it's going to be really awkward to go manual when doing so.

I'm not trying to be argumentative. I was just thinking about how I'm going to use it and feel the form factor/ ergonomics is going to hinder it in certain situations where a camera of that size and specs should excel.

You're very optimistic.

Heh, heh...

There is some more info that came about from Big Jon and Jannard in the posts following. The render just kicked off the frenzy of questions. But, there were some add'l tid bits that we didn't know before that render came out.

Relative size... I think Jim said, *right now* it's about 5" tall. Focus is on the lens... Iris and Zoom are on the back of the camera. We don't know how that will function, but they said that we will have to trust them that we'll really, really like what they are doing with focus/zoom/iris. Some other stuff too, that I can't think of. Little things. Still early in the game though.

They did say they are moving out of the public r&d phase, so one might expect that we will begin to see more frequent updates as time goes by now as things begin to get locked down.
