Supposedly they're coming out with this in the near future.

That would be mindblowing, considering how good their other lenses are for video use.

I heard that as well. It's really a necessity for APS-C, a 24 is a great walking around lens. If the optics are good, it would be a great lens for Duclos to retool into a cinema lens.

"These people are out of their minds."

Oh here we go "visionfilmz"... The retail prices WILL be high for this lens. Foto-Tip is a very good retailer, and they have got early access/pre-production models of Samyang lenses before.

Good luck finding a 1.4 24mm for less. €699 is still an absolute steal for a decent lens, and if this is as good as their previous offerings, it's an even better deal.

Yeah, it's prolly $100 too expensive.

I have the 35mm and love it, but come on - it's still a 3rd party lens with no auto focus. But, the Rokinon line does have sales from time to time (the 35mm was one of the Amazon door busters a few weeks ago, and it was like $100 off - amazing price)...

Which means I'll be waiting 'til then!

How is it too expensive when its half the price of any Canon or Nikon equivalents, and still the same optical quality? I dont even see the auto focus as an issue, I'd prefer all my lenses to be totally manual so there's less to go wrong, smoother focusing and longer throw. Would you not buy a Zeiss ZE for not having autofocus? No. You buy it because it has fantastic optical quality, which these Samyangs are very close to for half the price.

Trouble in the camp? on the Rokinon FB page a commentor posted this:

"Well the first real test is out for the 24 1.4 and it's not good. The light the lens lets in is closer to 1.8 and it's terribly soft at wide apertures from f/1.4-4. Distortion is worse than competitors. Not sure why Samyang/Rokinon decided to charge such a higher price than previous products and then fail to deliver the same kind of results. Looks like the Canon 24 1.4L II is a better call. Was really looking forward to this lens but after seeing the price and then the results, doesn't look like I'm going to buy one. "

This is the review he saw

Rokinon posted this in response:

"This does not look like it is a test on the US Rokinon version of the lens. Popular Photography is testing our US Rokinon version. Keep a look out for it."

And also

"
We did not provide the lens for that test so I cannot comment on how accurate it is. Based on our internal tests, the 24mm will perform very well"

So it seems that the Samyang version and Rokinon US version will be different optically speaking. Maybe that copy was a dud? Should have had probably 2 copies on hand to make sure.

99.99999% sure you have never used their 24mm lens, so you honestly cannot form an opinion. Secondly this name brand has NEVER put out a product this equipment in their current dslr lens line up. One of the only and MAIN reasons people bought them was due to their price/quality factor, now they they are charging a lot more it raises many questions.

I mean you just don't go to a ford dealership and now all of a sudden pay $40K for a Ford Focus..........

Seems like now they are having problem with this lens as JamBredz has pointed out, figures.

As I said earlier, if this lens is as good as the others, then it's a bargain. It seems from first reviews that it's not going to be, so of course it's going to feel like a lot of money for it.

quote from a FB users on Rokinon Page :

"Popular Photography reports that their sharpness and contrast numbers for the Rokinon 24 1.4 test are almost identical to Canon's 24 1.4LII and even slightly better than Nikon's 24 1.4. Decent distortion control, although not as good as Canon or Nikon. Subject magnification bests both Canon and Nikon with 1:4:84"

".love the lens by the way, i compared it to 24 1.4L at b&h and they were neck and neck."

"I have to agree. My new 24 performs almost exactly the same way as my 35. Same hue, sharpness, contrast, focus feel and performance, light transmission, and build. Thumbs up!"
