safest flight case for a C300???

I picked up a storm case 2500 roller for air travel situations where the think tank is a problem for instance where you know you'll be on some small planes and will have to gate check. While I don't think I can get everything I might have in the think tank into the storm case, the storm case is certainly adequate and just this morning it fit in the overhead of a airplane that would have been too small for the think tank. The organizer for the lid of the storm case is over priced and under designed as far as I am concerned...

This is how I roll.

I don't like hard cases. They are heavy to lug around and I don't like to roll camera gear. I was happy to sell my storm case shortly after I got it. My trust Kata HB207 backpack has been with me all over the world to film - I now have it set up with a c100/5D, lenses and audio. They don't make that model anymore but I would look for a large DSLR backpack made by Kata or one of the other quality brands that can fit a 17' laptop.

Yet another vote for ThinkTank. My Peli and Storm cases are used for truck-shipping or check-in baggage. My key kit (camera, sound, edit, backup) all fly in a ThinkTank backpack. Even more important in these days of heightened security, my laptop bag goes into a ThinkTank backpack for a 'one bag check-in' and separates for '2 bag cabin baggage' - pull the separate laptop bag out to check the overhead bag fits, then put the laptop bag at feet - although that's mostly a British Airways thing.

However, I was unable to get an EX3 or C300 into a ThinkTank Airport Accelerator v1 or v2 and tend to rent locally for these cams. You can get a C300 into carry-on but it requires a bit (!) of assembly at the other end.

My other issue with pelican cases are the latches. if you do check a pelican its rare that they come through to baggage claim with all their latches still closed. I dont know if its the tsa guys that dont close the latches or if they are just plain susceptible to opening when snagged in baggage handling. Storm cases have better latches than pelican or so it seems to me.

Trust me it's the guys opening the gear and not closing it. I started carrying zip ties with me for this purpose. When I'm forced to gate check the 1510 now, it always comes back closed. Before I had MULTIPLE occasions where it came off the plane and was open or had the contents in different places than I left them. Haven't had that problem since!

+1 for Thinktank

Pelican cases are great for their protection and durability, but not so much for weight or actual storage space. They lack the efficiency that a soft back provides as you can fit the equivalent contents of TWO pelican 1520's into ONE Thinktank Airport security.

Also for those that may be looking for a great bag to "check" at the airport, have a look at the 5.11 tactical soms 2.0 bag. Fits tripods, sliders, light stands and more. The thinktank Airport security and the soms 2.0 are my goto bags when clients don't the budget for gear transport.

I never experience any problems flying within the states, or out for that matter. The problems arise with connection flights outside of the states, or flying back into the states as most airlines enforce this ridiculous 7kg carry-on limit. With enough arguing I have never been denied carrying it on(traveling 5-6 times a year internationally). Thinktank bags are a bit pricey, but I feel their quality is without a doubt worth the investment.
