S1h Shutter dial- annoying

hi there
the most annoying thing is the shutter dial on the s1h - you cannot turn it off or lock it when filming and inevitably you change the degrees from 180

really find this a bit annoying and seems like an obvious option that should be given. Does any one know if it is possible to set one of the dials to change iso and the other to change aperture?
Anyone else find this.
Thanks
Barry

yes but that is deactivating both dials...I want to have both controls on the dial..ideally 1 set for f stop and the other for ISO
For me when handheld these are the most frequently changed and when having to press a button and then having to change the dial it is more awkward than simply having dial on the grip

This seems so obvious to me that I think I may be making a mistake??? Deal breaker for me on a solid camera if this cannot be sorted.

The way the dials operate seems to be similar to the GH5. Perhaps they didn't get this type of feedback very often.
I understand what you're saying. Being able to choose what you assign to each dial with more freedom would be nice. Especially since this is a cine oriented camera, more than any of their hybrids before.

However, if you keep changing values by accident while shooting, locking them is not the worst solution. If you're handheld with both hands on the camera you should be able to make fast changes after some practice. The multiple actions take getting used to at first until muscle memory kicks in.

You can always ask Mitch to pass along your feedback. Maybe they are able to include it in a future firmware.

hi this just seems so obvious....Locking them is not an option as I want to be able to adjust the f stop on the fly.... that means unlocking it every time..not a workable solution.

Is Mitch a Panasonic person? I kind of recognise the name but am not too often here....

Yup, I started that thread and no have no problem with shutter changing. Good custom setup that you prefer and practice.

Small thing to deal with such a great little powerhouse of a camera. Still have not gone full manual lens, that was part of my plan, but with no work coming in I am just using the great Panasonic three lens.

Double handed on the camera, with grip strap helps a lot by keeping my thumb clear of SS.

These show my basic setup. Also have my Lectro option, shotgun option, light option. All fast and easy with this great cage.

Tape. Gaffer's tape is my answer on the GH5 and 5S.

ok tape....??? come on...everyone here seems not too bothered about this and happy to pay €4000 to have such an obvious problem just sit there on a camera... come on tape and choosing a lens setup as a work around... I emailed panasonic and have am trying to contact them for a solution. This was same on gh5 and gh5s -- it is ridiculous...1 . that people haven't requested it and 2. to think of being able to customise all these stupid things that don't matter and then this big oversight..really pissed with P. and I am a fanboy

If you see what you get for your 4000€ there is really no reason to be pissed.
Could they have spotted and changed this? Probably. But everyone works in the way they like best. If they would have gotten this feedback a lot on the GH5 or in testing with the S1H, I think they would have changed it already.
Panasonic listens to its customers and usually keep firmware updates coming regularly. The GH5 has become a much better camera since release. Some other companies don't even bother regular firmware updates for their products under 10(or much more)k. So no need to get upset here.

Never been on a movie set where very expensive Cine cameras do not have black wrap or gaffers tape holding something in place or on the camera...I use gaffer's tape on my display button...camera's price has little to do with how one makes it work

I don't think I have to be honest...I'm a run and gun solo shooter so just looking for a camera that makes my job as easy as possible...Using tape to 'make it work' may be ok for you but for me I think its a design oversight - would you agree?
Maybe you are working in a different environment but I can assure you for a run and gun corporate style this inability to set the dials to the 2 most frequently used settings is a blind spot - missed by engineers and anyone who have given input into the gh5 and S1h cameras. I have heard Pana. wax lyrical on the ability to customise the buttons/funcitons etc.. colour of peaking, tally lights... etc...all great but just give me the ability to set the two dials that are most easy to operate when handheld to whatever function I want.
Anyone who says that this is a small oversight or is no big deal doesn't know what they are talking about...I'm not saying that to be unkind or anything it is just a fact .. the camera is great and the gh5s is also a great camera ..has never let me down etc.. but really sort this out..

I love your suggestion. Anything that makes a camera better for the user is great! I hope Panasonic takes note and improves on the next model. (i laughed at the gaff tape thing, and yet, it is also just good advice in general. I'd likely already have gaff tape over the logos on my camera anyway, and some holding the freakin HDMI cable out of the way. So, adding some to a dial would keep me sane in the interim. Maybe just on the side that I might bump, so that if I needed to change a setting quickly, then I could still get beyond the tape friction with a more intentional twist.

I’ve noticed this too, right away, it’s bothersome.... to the point I’m checking it as I shoot and often at 181 or 182..... This is something that should be taken care of...

No, its not possible. I went through all of this months ago when I was producing my S1H master class. It is strange that they let us customize almost every other control on the camera but those two dials are left out. Personally I'd leave that dial set for shutter speed anyway but it'd be nice for other people to have the option. I've customized almost every other button on my camera though, and I'd be lost if I ever picked up an S1H again that was on the factory settings.

I use manual lenses so the lock works for me as I change f stop on the lens. But I agree there should be an option of individual control over one wheel at a time. And if someone at Panasonic is listening- the inability to lock the shutter while releasing the iris is what is stopping me from investing in lumix pro lenses. How’s that for motivation?
