RX10: Grand Canyon Winter

I read the focus is a "fly by wire" type. Are manual focus pulls repeatable on the RX10 for dramatic work? If yes, this might be a great camera for low budget web series run and gun type of work.

no, you cannot do repeatable pulls, not by a longshot. its really a different feeling and sony should try and refine it more

It's very nice to have peaking...panasonic. It's very nice to have zebras....panasonic. It's very nice to have a Sony RX10....Panasonic.

heh, I looked at footage I shot with my hacked Gh2 vs. the RX10…..same exact material. The RX10 was the clear winner….

Plus it is nice to have headphone monitoring…..panasonic. It's very nice to have a Sony RX10....Panasonic.

Dan,
Thank you for posting this.
You have got me taking a hard look at this camera.
Beautiful images and the clear stable background is really impressive.
Helloooo........Panasonic......

Helloooo........Panasonic......

I'm happy to hear you found the project useful. Personally, I'm finding the RX10 increasingly impressive, and have discovered no fatal flaws.

Looking forward to your experience with camera.

Here's what I've found that's really important to me - surprisingly, the RX10 delivers a denser "negative" than the GH3 @ 50mbs, for Filmconvert and grading.
It's easier to dial in a natural look and it looks better with the same basic settings.

I remember looking at J Behiri's little doc and being unimpressed with the density and balance of the skin tones.
But it was all over the place from a white balance standpoint and pretty flat.
I mentioned to Johnnie that there were a couple of candid street shots that sold me on it's potential, and that he shouldn't write off it's potential as a more filmic tool.

Shoot it at it's best (Neutral -3's) exposed well for skin tones and you can really make it shine in post.

technically yes, my second, but since my first is still within return policy period, and i keep all materials meticulously new, it'll be finding a new owner :)

if you're on the fence about an RX10, it's $937 at adorama for god knows how long. it says open box, but i just got it and it's retail, invoice even shows retail new SKU.

$937

Well crap, they pulled it! I was ready to pull the trigger.
Since there are other reports about the "open box" cameras being new, wonder what the story is. Maybe priming the market to get some buzz going.....
Thanks for the link anyhow Darren.
Not anxious to blow 1300 but still be keeping an eye on it.
