Rumor: Sony A7s will have 4K video

My hunch is that the A7s is going to be a very great camera for those of us who are into video.

No doubt for the DR for most over pure high ISO. Its a really nice looking camera I can't wait till we can see some real tests and examples to see what it can do in the hands of the masses.

Does anyone know when Sony plans to launch the A7S

I remember the endless discussions about the Nikon D800E, and more recently the Zeiss 55mm Otus APO lens. I just knew they were going to be game-changers, at least for me.

These were great achievements with endless discussion, mostly by those who never tried them. My hunch is that the A7s is going to be a very great camera for those of us who are into video.

+1

I think this is going to be a beast of a doc and time lapse cam with the DR and clean higher ISOs. The two preview videos - the fish dudes and the Japanese woman - looked pretty damn sharp too, sharper than the 5d2/3 internal codec which is used professionally all the time. The harbor shots looked moire and aliasing free too. I think it'll really look good in all the US broadcast pipelines. If it sells around $3000 this will be a bargain, I paid more for a FS100 when it came out, if its any less that's just icing on the cake for me. I'm going to pair the A7s with a GH4 - for the 96fps - to shoot a Le Mans racing documentary over the next year or so. Just release it!!!

I feel that the GH4 offer a lot, a video workhouse for the mass, but with the result which look a little like any serious DSLR while the Sony may be a chance to output picture with a unique look?

Indeed.
Internally recorded 4K for $1,699, or no internally recorded 4K for twice that.
Hmmm... (strolling toward the Panasonic booth)

But ~$3500 has already been confirmed by Australian distributors.

I have no idea if $1800is correct but the Australian estimate was simply the A7 price repeated, and it is high since it reflects taxes that are unusual. Since $1800 is roughly the US price the two rumors are really not far apart. BUT believe nothing since Sony could be putting out a rumor to test the market before they announce a final MRP.

They have to be scared by the GH4. Sure the GH4 is designed for a different consumer, but most purchasers are not sophisticated enough to see the Sony A7s' advantages.

Well, if the A7s is at $1800, that would be amazing and worth every penny. I already have my GH4, and am struggling with the IQ/DR of the camera. Of course we all could use a super low-light camera.

All the UK Dealers are still showing £2500 and taking pre-orders based on this price, I doubt such a huge change of price is on the cards.

I happen to think $1800 is a fair price for what this camera offers but I bet Mr. Sony thinks differently.

Contacted Ted's here in Oz, and a rep confirmed the $3500au tag on their site, and a June release. $1800us seems like a dream.

I spoke with a Sony store manager in my area today, similar scenario, except AU$ RRP price was a little higher than Ted's, as you would expect from the source... 'T is a dream within a dream, Steve.

unofficial claims range from $1800 to $5000, so, no way to know until Sony says something official

my bet is $3000, and I think the stores accepting preorders at very high prices are both skimming too-early adopters, and covering their asses in case the price ends up higher than they think (they can lower their price if the official number is lower, but can't raise it if it's higher)

From Sonyalpha rumors:

A7s pricing: Sony is spreading different price info that’s why you didn’t see me posting an SR5 rumor yet. Store owners told me prices between $1800 and $5000. And they claim they got the info from Sony managers. So you see, better to wait for the real pricing announcement

yes, that was my source for the $1800 to $5000 range

Sony better hurry bringing out some competitive pricing, because I'm no resolution nuthead but wow, the GH4 is really impressive... (jury still out on DR, but seriously, sharper than an EPIC, at prosumer prices)

Come on guys, lets be realistic. How can the A7s be priced lower than the RX1? It's a premium niche product with the world's most sensitive sensor, designed to showcase Sony's best technology. They only want to sell a few of them, to help build Sony's brand. This is not a mass market product and they aren't going to price it that way.

well since everyone is intent on the guessing game. i'll put my bid in at 2799 bob

I think it will be $1999. Maybe $2299. The general consumer is probably not going to care so much about the 4k, only rather an added bonus along with superior low-light, but... a HUGE trade for half (or a third) of the megapixels. At least in America, people see bigger number and think it's better. Resolution to many, especially the photo side of things, is still a really big deal. I don't believe they will be able to effectively sell the camera near $3k. If it is, I think there will be many waiting for the next generation 24MP with even better 4k. I'm going to buy a Sony 4k TV soon, and as much as I would like to have a new a7s, I don't think I would do it yet. I have a Nex7 that does great photos and great video already. I'm not one to wait AT ALL, but I would much rather have one camera that can do it all because I do some photo stuff as well. 24MP is about where I am finally happy with for stills and will immediately purchase the 24MP, 4k, a7z for $3k when something like that comes along. And I am preparing for that now, even the lenses I am buiyng are all full frame lenses. I want a good resolution still camera, I want 4k, love the NEX size, I just don't want multiple cameras. I would even be very happy with an APS-C NEX-7 with decent 4k.
