Rumor: Sony A7s will have 4K video

well, yes... depending on the fps settings for the front camera and what tech the LCD uses
and even then, with motion blur in the rear camera, I'd have to look frame by frame to differentiate

You could not get skew by filming another monitor, you would get a broken and flickering image in the LCD but not skewed footage.

How is a real object moving infront of the camera different than an object moving on the screen? What makes the object on the screen immune to skew?

Of course you can get skew even if the first camera is global shutter, as well as possible flickering. If both cameras scan the same way the effect may be amplified. If they scan in opposite ways the effect may be lessened.

Because while the object moving in real life has an "infinite amount of fps", the screen is only showing 24fps, and the recording camera also is shooting at that same speed. So you can't have objects bend, all you could get is choppy frames, flickering or half exposed frames. Not skewed lines.

If the camera in front was capturing and displaying 200 fps for example then maybe you could get skew on the 2nd camera, but that's not case.

Does anybody know what happens when recording the hdmi output of the camera, which as I understand is 4k 4:2:2, to an external recorder that can record 1080 4:4:4?

Ahh yes, you are right. Of course there is the added complication of the monitor refresh rate and direction, but that would just make screen tears at worse.

Makes sense, but it will depend on the fps, and I think I wouldn't be able to discern those half-frame jumps once the case is not as black-and-white as in the global shutter example.

Not that important anyway.

I WANT TO HEAR THE PRICE!!!

Me too. Price! It has been decided that the camera is worth paying attention to, now tell us what you want us to PAAYYYYY SONY.

Now that they have our attention is where the marketing dept comes in place and bumps the price +-$1K. Because they can.

>:[ quick everyone go to GH4 threads.

It's weird, because they sort of COULD charge 3K for it and should (selling a limited number in comparison to the 32mp counterparts), but then they really... shouldn't? Just because I said so? LOL

No worries, I am the voice of the reason here: 8-bit, 8-bit, 8-bit forever and ever. Be a 8-bit condemned :-)

8-bit, even over HDMI
no internal 4K
no internal NDs
it doesn't shoot RAW, like the Blackmagics
the sensor size is weird, what we really want is S35
and 4K out of S35 here will be soft, because it's an upscale from 2.7K
it is not shaped like a video camera
mini-HDMI is a very bad solution
anything else?

whatever price they're thinking about... TOO EXPENSIVE, SONY!!! THIS SHOULD BE CHEAPER THAN THE 24MPIX A7!!!

LOL! You're damn right.... Sony, r u listening?

Emailing the Sony rep and asking who I have to kill to get one probably wasn't such a great idea :cheesy:

I think Sony know that if they price too high, people will go for the GH4, which has the major advantages of internal 4k and 10 bit output. And lets not forget that for still photographers 12 megapixel is on the verge of being too low a resolution. The A7s has some appealing characteristics but it has to be priced right for people to truly take to it in numbers.

By the way Den Lennie has added to his blog with a low light video. http://www.fstopacademy.com/blog/sony-alpha-7s-first-hands-on-shooting-review/ Not bad. Low light ability in video is probably now equal to stills mode.

I agree that the GH4 should keep the price in check. I say should but who knows. The A7S is really a small market product. Not enough MP for the pro photog or the amateur who is looking for the biggest MP #s. It also sacrifices AF capabilities of its siblings. This is purely aimed at DSLR video users and considering where the other A7 models land on the price spectrum this one shouldn't cost more. I'd guess between $2000-$2500. That is the price point for it to be on my radar.

Today I held a A7 in my hands. I just wanted to know how the A7s would feel like. It felt tiny and a bit slack and loosely, not really solid. Ergonomically it's definitely behind the GH3/4.

The A7s & A7r have an all magnesium body which the A7 doesn't have. Wonder if that makes a difference in the feel.
