Rumor: Sony A7s will have 4K video

Really? I can't stand the 1DC at all. The rolling-shutter when in 4K is ridiculous. And the files sizes of the MJPEG, considering it is only 8-bit, are simply too large to justify the image it gives - which I've found doesn't grade very well. Anyway, to each his own :)
Just stirring the pot.

There are some rumors around 1699$...

Really doubt it! That is the cost of the A7. The A7r, is MSRP $ 2,299.99. I imagine the A7s, will be more. I mean, the A7r has only been on the market for like half a year! Wouldn't make sense for an A7s to be base model A7 cost, right? We can hope for it, but I highly doubt it.

It actually does kinda make sense: A7S is actually a limited stills camera in comparison to the A7 and R, its value is pretty much 4K video and 1080 video with insane lowlight performance, and DR.

I wouldn't expect it to cost more, but could see it costing less. Put one in everyone's pocket... like the Pocket Camera... =[ Only with a not-so-amazing codec.

So far the A7s is better, slightly better, in every respect except the lack of internal capture. However, the biggest factor that makes it superior is actually the price. The fact it doesn't do 10-bit 4k is pretty disappointing, but now it means there's actually a choice between the GH4 and A7s. Depending on how their respective DRs come out, it could really be a factor for some. 10-bit 4k, or better low light capability/fullframe?

EDIT: I've seen a price of $2500 floating around. Eeeeeh, considering you'll NEED a recorder too . . . Though to be honest, I'd probably pay that much for a 4K APS-C 7D mk2 (if it had touch screen AF).

The first images from either camera, without specs to glance at, it wouldn't really be a question...A7S

I think this could be the one I've been dreaming about: amazing sensor with a universal mount that shoots 60p full frame and S35 (so cool) no pixel binning, no aliasing, killer DR & low light, and an uncompressed s-log 422 output. Sure internal recording or raw output would be nice but I think it's going to produce really good prores 4444 masters and that's all that counts.

Agreed. 4k for everything other than cinema is about gradeability, and the inclusion of slog2 implies a gradeable image. I'm failing to see the value of in-camera 4k - it's just a number - ultimately it's the image that counts. I've been disappointed by the dr and macroblocking I've seen in the GH4 footage. This feels like the af100/fs100 all over again.

It looks like the MK3 in dual ISO mode only without the aliasing. I reckon it's cranking out 14 stops, how is that possible recording 8bit?

If it does capture 14 stops, it's all due to the image processor. It's a misconception around here that 8 bit can't do more than 12 stops. Yes it can. Just not very well because you lose a lot of that luma sampling in the fine precision of that sampling range.

Plus so much of those extra 2 stops goes into highlight latitude, which helps roll off but gets also crushed in 709 anyway, right?

Anyone know how much DR Sony cameras traditionally lose at high ISO? It it like Canon that stabilizes at 11ish as the ISO goes up.
