Rumor: Canon 4k super35 camera

But they showed a pic of another camera.. It has to be the DSLR cinema version ..did anyone else notice that???

One thing that has to be said...well done to Canon for managing to keep this announcement secret right up to the point they showed it.

Yep...everyone.

People are going crazy on all of the blogs etc (including here since about an hour ago).

They're teasing us like cruel bullies :)

Maybe there is a decimal place off in the list price! :) Hopefully someone in the audience will ask the questions we want to know. Focus Assist? Waveforms? ND? DR? XLR? etc. Too many unknowns. What makes this sad to me is that the release of the iPhone4S felt more technical. I mean, go look at the information they gave about the new backlit CMOS sensor, the lenses, the speed, the video mode. You'd think there would be something more if it comes out in 3 months. Maybe they weren't allowed to say more, I am not knocking the panelists as they were their for Canon. But Canon really baffles me on this. Given the HUGE number of people that use the 5D for video, you'd think some sort of hybrid like this is would come between their last range of video cameras and the 5D. Or, at least come out with something for the 5D shooters that want more of a video centric camera like Panasonic did with the AF100.

I just seriously don't get it.

Oh well, will be interesting to see what Scarlet has become.

I just realized this is the first time I've gone through 50 pages post by post damn near live on dvx. I feel really good. This is a good night. I had a horrible day, and I just remembered what I was ticked off about. I really feel like I'm a final match in some championship. Sometimes it's great to just be the audience :) Let's hope I remember that while I write or shoot

For those asking about the other camera in the image, it has a red C on it just like the C300. My guess is it was the 1DX because it was too high to be a new 5D or something. It's likely to be new branding going on the DSLR's from now on that have video features. The EOS Cinema trademark.

That was my first guess. I didn't think it was anything OTHER THAN that. Thanks for sharing.

In a way this announcement was brilliant -- they're not waiting for people to prove they can make movies with it -- they've established that at the announcement. In a way this announcement was irritating -- two hours later and I still don't know the camera's specs.

Yet, I'm almost more interested in knowing what that OTHER camera was that was shown as part of the system, but not discussed. It has that red "C" logo, so it's part of the system, but it looks like a 5D Mark 3.

Just landed in San Antonio and now checking the thread. My faith in canon is pretty much fully justified. Nice looking rig though. I said not before 2012 so I think I win. I said def no af100/fs100 competitor so I win on that. But they really did surprise me by going after the f3. This is over twice as expensive as their prior top end. Didn't really expect them to do that.

Um, Barry: you said the thing would be the 2/3 hairdryer :P

- I (and the rest of the internet) predicted it'd be S35
- I predicted you'd see a pic of their new cam with all of the EOS lenses behind it. Like their old brochure for the XL1... which is of course exactly what they showed.
- We both win on it being out in early 2012 :)

I lose on Canon not announcing their low-end camera today. They announced that this one was part of a family... but that was it. Although what was that DSLR with the red C?

16k lol. Didn't somebody at Canon marketing get the memo about the depression?

I'll stick with my 5D and NEX-5N. I can shoot full frame and 1080p 60p with that combo and stave off bankruptcy for a bit longer. The 16k is going into a bunker.
