Rules of the Road finished short, funny? you tell me!

Hi Obin.

Great clip, looks and sounds fine for the tone of the story as far as I could see. More importantly, the story and the acting are right on the money. One of the better shorts I've seen. Well done and thanks for posting.

Thanks for the kind words Peter, I will be producing more work like this over the rest of the summer, hope you all enjoy and keep the feedback flowing. I will post if you talk. ;)

Great job.. Funny as hell.. Love that you used the HVX/M2.. What was ur ZOOM/Focus set to? (I'm at 74-Z 18-F)

Any Rig pictures? Would love to see some..

thanks for posting!

I loved this short! I do echo the comments on the kid...i felt his drawl was pretty irritating, and to be nitpicky, i felt that the transition to the kid being overtly insulting was a tad sudden - i felt a gradual transition would have flowed better. The cop's siren should have started earlier like you said. Overall i loved the look and everything, and damn i wish i could make my stuff look half as good as that...

wot the heck was that? The only thing that happened was:
1. a cop pulled a guy over and the guy called the cop a fat gay
2. the cop disregarded the fat gay comment, and got mad only when the traffic rules were continually questioned.
3. the cop beat the guy with his club, and there was an earthquake.
This is a very strange piece.

I'm behind ya. Though you have to give credit to the visuals. The images looked great...

The content, however.

The images do look great for sure! Wouldn't call it funny or a comedy though. More like something from a surreal piece. Would need to have another twist or a joke at the end to make it funny or a comedy.

Nice performances and overall style.. Thanks for showing!

I think this looked great. As for funny? Well, not really. It was "cute". On a technical note, as others have commented, the cop appears out of the blue. But the suggested audio fixes would cure that. More importantly though, this is a case of less is more for content I think.

I'd say the overall piece would have more impact if it were shorter. The cop is way too patient with the driver and no cop would put up with that much crap from some punk kid. As a result, both his taunting and the cops responses start feeling repetitive very quickly (especially since the comments made by the kid are too cliche to be funny). The actor's drawl was hard to get past (new orleans?). IMO, some of the lines from the driver and responses from the cop should simply be cut. It would tighten the piece overall and give greater impact the skit as a whole.

The only distracting shot was when the cop was beating the kid because the image was so fisheyed. (I'd also only do that beating thing once, not twice)

Overall it looked great and has professional production values.

once again, thanks for the comments, it's hard to make all the changes as then you get what the masses voted for, but some are very valid.. I think the buildup would be less impactfull if we cut the thing shorter, but I have thought of that many times, and I almost made a shorter version.still may cut it to see how it plays...your not the first to say that about it...I don't agree with the comment about the" transition to the kid being overtly insulting was a tad sudden"...that is the point, with the 17mm lens the kids lines and the weird music...it all builds up, glad you feel it's "sudden" you should.

keep em coming!

I gotta tell you, "normal" people LOL at this short, not video freaks, your normal hardworking neighbor.

Guys n' Gals, Mr FURP is a finalist in the NATPE NextGen short film contest! wish us luck!!

looked great, love that hvx/m2 combo, the kids "drawl" killed me, i dont know if htat was a mistake or what with the cops makeup on hte forehead (or lack there of) but i thought it was supposed to be a bad tan line, which i liked, it gave me a laugh. anyway's good job, keep on keep'n on

For the record, this "f*&^ing" actor told the director that he could not operate a motorcycle the day he was CAST, NOT the day of the shoot.

LOL, see you never throw your talent under the bus! A director or producer should have asked that question and confirmed once more during the audition if it was critical. Criticizing an actor publicly, who worked on your film for free BTW, IMO is unprofessional and in bad taste.

Haha you guys are funny. His actor comment was sarcastic. The actor was free, and you just have to roll with it the best you can :)
