C300: Rokinon Cine 85mm T1.5 Sample

I'm okay with a lens being light, I'm not okay with it being cheap -- not in terms of price, but in terms of build quality. I just wanted to clarify because sometimes people (I don't mean any of you, obviously) can get the two mixed up, particularly with lenses. If the lens feels tight and well made and doesn't skimp out on image quality, then at it's price point it's a steal. Still, I'm going to rent one first and see what I think before I buy one.

Yay for rational consumerism! :)
I hear ya. Good call to rent one if you have concerns about it.

One last thing: the focus gears are obviously built into the lens housing since it's a cinema lens, but how does the lens function without a follow focus? The reason I ask is because about 70% of the shoots I'm on, I'm moving faster than I'd like to be in the field and I don't have a lot of time to set up a small rails system to mount a follow focus on. The versatility of the L-series lenses (and other photographic lenses) has been a gift in these situations because I can just slap them on the camera, and pull focus from the lens. Having shot DSLRs for so long, I'm more than adept at pulling focus from the focus ring without the aid of a follow focus.

Sean, well the focal travel distance is a little longer than a photographic lens, also it has a lubricant in the focus ring that gives it a nice smooth action = better for pulling focus by hand or with ff.
