Rodney Charters (24) 5d rig

Hey, thanks! Great find.

Here's Canon's new ad copy:

explains Patel. “I was amazed because I had just produced a short film two months ago on a RED camera, and I was looking at the image side-by-side, and for the size and cost of this camera, it really is approaching the kind of quality you’re getting out of the RED. You might not get the color space, but the kind of look it’s given me for a $2,500 body and the fact that it can hook up with practically any lens out there is amazing.”

So to sum up. If you need hollywood quality and need it quickly, go with the 5DII. If you have millions and have time to relax, sip tea and eat caviar while exchanging witty quips with George Clooney on set, go with the Panavision 35mm Panaflex.

So if "Time" is the determining factor in camera choice, it would seem that we'll see the invasion of the 5DII in many more productions as line producers try to make their day to stay within budget.

check out the trailer for the same film and an audio interview with the director. looks good...the muzzle flashes kinda suck though. the music is nice.

actually it seems the film is there..."episode zero".

Looked good...story wasnt all that though. the girl is pretty hot and those zoom shots looked really good.

Well, the content was less than compelling, but at least it shows what I've been curious about for awhile, and that's what the footage from this camera looks like used as a primary camera for narrative work in the hands of a professional DP. Pretty damn good.

Definitely would have looked better at 24p. I agree about the muzzle flashes. You can also hear the sound of the trigger from the plastic gun trailing off after the shot. But that's just me nickpicking for no real reason. Not going to give them negative points for that.

It does look good. But I think what I like most about it and this might sound weird, but you get a professional DP like that, using great lenses, and shooting on a camera we can all afford (typically speaking) and his results are good but they feel like something any one of us could achieve with enough practice and a good eye. I'm not saying that to downplay Rodney Charters skill at all. But instead it's somewhat inspirational. I grew up where movies and the people making them seemed like they existed in a whole other realm. Separated from the regular folks like myself by hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of equipment, crew and post production savvy. Yet when you see something like this done by someone you respect, you suddenly begin to realize it's not that far out of grasp. Take away the shine of a 35mm Panavision camera and what these guys are doing looks similar to what we're all doing. That's exciting!

so how exactly are they using Panavision lense on the canon, Is there an adapter that is not permanent, because all of the ones i have seen modify the camera? Parts List would be nice

Hmm. I'm a little underwhelmed by the trailer. I don't know if it was the acting, the color grade, the edit...?

Cool to see enthusiasm for the camera though. I look forward to the types of tools we'll have in another couple of years.

I kind of agree. It looks good, but I think I was expecting to be a little more blown away.

.

I'd say definitely bad acting, mediocre sound, cheesy title, and ok edit. Oh yeah, and it feels like a daytime soap with that crappy 30p :bath:

Yeah, I was pretty disappointed here, the photography lacked strong definition, contrast, mood and much depth.

the 30p ruined it for me more than anything else, I think.
