FEATURE: Rise of the Beast-the new feature from STARS Pictures

Nope, not obvious at all.
i have no desire to get into a pissing match
but was I supposed to spell out..
"you wont spend 60 dollars for a domain name and a server to host your website
for 1 year"
just to make you happy?

The best part is your pissing over an irrelevant matter.
Point being is this person doesnt seem to understand reality.

Whoa, cool down peoples.
First, yes we were in talks for a $500,000 budget. Things were good until some of the money people stumbled across the thread and saw what wonderful support we have on here. It was yanked so I'm back to pounding on doors. That's why I'm not paying for a domain name yet. But soon.... =D

actually he's not joking; chris has made another feature film (Leap) on this subject -- parkour? something about running and leaping; it's from South America, I think? It looks exciting.

The $500 grand was a potential investor who was going to finance the movie, but chris wasn't going to put that into the movie. he was going to build a company to make many movies -- which is smart; i mean, why invest all that money in a movie that can be shot for, say $25,000.

But sometimes revealing too much in a thread -- though exciting for us to read ... like Corrado -- it leads to professional people considering acquisition of a movie to offer less money. I think Adam was smart to pull the thread when he did. Corrado could have been marketed as a $2.5 million movie (what with Tom Sizemore in it and all those Soprano boys).

So, if I make a movie like my Kickstarter effort for $25,000 and go out there in the foreign market. I won't be able to say, I made this movie for $1.2 mill for example, because there it is on the Internet -- it was financed for $25,000.

So we need to invent some fancy foot work to recover from natural blunders we must get ourselves out of. LOL

Unfortunately someone has already registered starspictures.com and they're not even using it. I did however manage to snag starspictures.info for a year for $0.89 Yes, 89 cents! It's not live yet, but should be soon!

Starspictures.net may be better. .Info is for mainly for information only sites.

I considered it, but I don't have the money for that yet.
Also, the new domain is now live, so use starspictures.info

It's $15 to get the name so no one else can get it. Just go to http://www.register.com/ and do it. You may even be able to do it for less sometimes. It's $15 a year. So even if you lose your hosting account you still have your name. If you ever lose the name you could end up having to pay big money to get it back.

Is there a trailer for your other feature online somewhere?
Which one? Leap is on my site. Same one it's been for the last month. Wulf? It's online but only for me as an archive. That movie is like a trunk novel for me.

@ Nate:
Yeah, I'll save up and try to get it. Thanks!

I spent the weekend diving head first into AE. I'm still a hardcore Vegas user, and I can do more in Vegas than most people can in their NLEs, but I figured it'd be nice to have another tool at my disposal, at least for finishing. I'll be updating my progress on my blog at http://starspictures.wordpress.com/

I've added some more updates to my blog.
Side note: Just watched MTV's Ultimate Parkour Challenge. It's a load of garbage. First, ithey're doing freerunning, not pk. Second, parkour is NOT about competition. Parkour is about a spirit and mindset to better oneself to help yourself and others. It's really too bad about the show. And of course, at least two of the guys are from Urban Freeflow, the so called "official parkour association". I'm sorry, but pk is not an organized sport. People need to realize this. Pro Parkour, Against Competition!

Rant over.

How are you planning to do your Special Effects? Are you going to be using some special software? How big are the special effects going to be? Is it hard to learn to do big time special effects or do you know of some easier ways to do it?:nads:

:kali:I'm planning a project with a lot of special effects and I'm wondering how hard is it nowadays for someone to do everything from scratch.

Rise of the Beast is more stunt heavy than effect heavy. There is an explosion that will be done with Vegas, AE, and Blender. The car chase will be mostly practical with basic greenscreen for actor inserts. I might do some digital set extensions, but that would be about as technical as it gets. I just started using Adobe After Effects CS4 a week ago. I found it's actually pretty easy to learn, but the interface is WAY different than I'm used to being a Vegas editor. I found some tutorials on videocopilot.net that had some effects I wanted to try. What's cool is that you can download the video files used in the tutorials so you can follow along. Once you've completed the effect, save the AE file and now you have a template for future use if you just substitute the video files. It may require minor tweaking, but you won't have to start form scratch. For instance, I did the disintegration effect, but now I can easily drop in anyone that's in front of a greenscreen into that project and make them disintegrate.

Motion tracking in AE is a piece of cake and I've used it to automatically track a power window so I don't have to keyframe it. Motion tracking is also great for replacing posters and signs =) MEANING you can just leave up your posters that you don't have the rights for, find some online in creative commons (or design your own) and drop those in instead. That way you still have production value on the walls without spending the money to print the posters for real. The entire process for one shot takes less than five minutes.

Oh, and snow and rain look pretty good too!

That effect is so fun and useful for vampire and fantasy flicks. I love it. I may use it in Divinity or my next flick.
