FEATURE: Rise of the Beast-the new feature from STARS Pictures

quite a statement to make on a forum full of people that work on NLE's.
Yes it is. But I've also used other editors in the past and found I could do more with Vegas as far as special effects, compositing, coloring, and audio editing go. Yes, the "other guys" have similar features, but then don't do it all as well. After six years of Vegas, I'm just now at the point where I'm wanting to try to do more, hence why I now have After Effects.

If your NLE works for you, great! And if you can do the aforementioned tasks easily in your NLE, that's great too. That means you're not "most people".

You guys need a sense of humor. ;)
About my NLE remark- At the time, I was hell bent on using nothing but Vegas for the movie. It has a very good compositor, and it's audio mixing surpasses the other NLE's I've seen. I still stand by Vegas for audio mixing, Vegas was created as an audio editor. However, the past few weeks I've been playing with AE have really opened my eyes. Vegas is good for many effects, again, (to me) better than the other editors (I've used a few), but there are some things you just have to go to AE for. I'm actually looking at taking Stu's advice and mastering the film in AE. It just makes more sense to me.

Gotcha, I was honestly under the impression that you didn't know what NLE stood for. Sorry about that :)

AE does have color advantages over some. I tend to very mildly color correct my footage, so I don't need anything super advanced.

I mainly only go into AE for special effects, but in my next movie I'm going to be doing a lot of effects on this. A trick I was taught was exporting things from FCP as "Animation".

No worries. Yeah, coloring abilities are what really turned me on to it. I started using Stu's Rebel plugin and I'm floored. I love coloring and grading and AE beats Vegas in this area hands down.

Right on. I've heard good things about that setting. With the workflow I use now, the only exporting stage is for the final render, which is really nice.

Tomorrow I've been asked to speak to a film class out at Washington State University. I've spent the day putting together a DVD for them that has a bunch of production forms and the journals I've kept making these three features so far. The video portion of the DVD includes my After Effects work and a newly re-cut and graded teaser for Rise of the Beast. I'll be bringing with me two of my cameras (each on a different no budget rig) and a couple of books that I recommend. Should be fun!

It sounds real exciting! I wish I were there; I'd love to attend. I'd love to see the A&E stuff that you worked with. I need to learn this program.

And you're documenting this event. I'd love to see it as a clip on Youtube. Good luck!
