Rigging the O7Q

Anyone seen, own or used the newer Tilta EVF mount. Good pictures here:

Not such good pics on the Tilta website (poor!):

http://www.tilta.com/product/d-28-_en.html

what looks good about this - cheap-ish, particularly compared to the solid camera mount, looks well made and *looks* like it could be mounted to the side mount thread on the O7Q by using the slotted upright mount on the EVF plate. Just need to confirm that would work and I might get one.

here is my custom modify edelkrone evf holder. the 2 silver rods are asked ppl made for me, it become longer and more comfortable on shoulder shooting. So far it work well for me but there are 2 cons for me,
1) the edelkrone screw part with the 7Q is no tide enough, the 7Q is too heavy, so the 7q will slightly move left or right, but that is not a really big deal if you dont touch the 7Q or shake too heavily.
2) the connecting hole below the 7Q will be block by the rod, especially middle hole between SDI hole B in to SDI hole B out, there is no way to plug in cables into it. Wait i free will try figure out other solution or ask people custom made for me, adding one plate between the edelkrone holder screw and 7Q to make it more thicker and away from the rod. Luckily i didnt use the hole in the middle, so not a big deal for me right now.
*Beware the rod of edelkrone is not 15mm! it is slightly smaller, between 14-14.9mm, i hate many brand purposely not making standard size which make you no choice to buy extra accessories from them or hardly custom made yourself.
I own the tilta monitor holder too and use it with 7Q before, it works but still not great especially come to adjust position all those.

Which Tilta EVF mount did you use before? There are two with the same part number (I think) but they're radically different.

No not worked it out yet. I've now got some pics and dimensions from a uk supplier but it looks like the evf plate is quite long and would interfere with the battery plate (unless I replace the cd plate with one of the others that sits to one side (maybe the west side av plate might work).

I would suggest adding a Wooden Camera Easy Plate (A threaded 1/4"x20 cheese plate) between the Edelkrone arm and the back of the Odyssey7Q. This should push the arm far enough away from the Odyssey that the connectors would all have proper clearance from the rod. Wooden Camera makes several sizes of Easy Plates so you should be able to find one that would fit into that space well for you. I'm guessing the original basic Easy Plate would do the job.

I've been running my rig with a movcam base plate, tilta v-lock battery, rails and arm for the O7Q and still don't find it very well balanced and you know it's just so unnecessarily heavy. I'm so done with the whole man-cage thing now...

So i'm looking for a more lightweight solution, but still using sliding dovetail plates.

I see Tilta have a lightweight baseplate now but i cannot find that anywhere, or very much info on it - anyone seen it or used it on the 700?

And Elements Micron have a small looking FS700 solution but needs a massive riser.

So, what are the lightest configurations we're using?

cheers
Paul

I put another shoe adapter on the top handle. You can see where the 4 screw holes are to take another shoe on the back of the top handle. I ordered one from sony but you could always move one of the existing two back. I needed all three. Then I put this on the back shoe adapter and I can run around handheld no problem - http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/683655-REG/Manfrotto_492LCD_492LCD_Micro_Ball_Head.html plenty strong and no play unlike most ball heads.

I'm also into low weight shoulder mount rigs. Even though I have an Odyssey 7Q, I bought an EVF (Knotehnik). I've been shooting for 30 years with a shoulder mount ENG rig, and I wanted to come close to that level of comfort. I also wanted something that wasn't too front heavy, so I can use both hands on the lens (if necessary). The shoulder mount is a Zacuto, and I also have a Movcam grip extender that doesn't show in this picture. No rods, so I won't be using a matte box or a V-lock battery plate, but I prefer the light weight. I stick the Odyssey (with Sony battery bracket) in a transparent bag and hang it on my belt.

The Vocas baseplate system is nice. Well-positioned shoulder pad, clips right into a standard VCT-14 V-mount tripod quick-release (like found on 2/3" cameras), includes rods for front & back so the Odyssey can go on back for help in shoulder balance and a good spot for tripod use while the handgrip can use the Vocas rod mount & extender to go onto the front rods for a comfortable position. Add viewfinder of choice for a complete solution.

This is the system Sony US chose for its new FS700/Odyssey7Q kit. Very slick and quite comfortable to use. Here's a link to a video I did describing it.

How is that zacuto shoulder pad? is it really comfortable and balance? (will not move/slide on ur shoulder) Do you love it?

I like it. It's shaped to fit the shoulder with a very comfortable gel pad. Camera position is quite adjustable forward/back. The rubber tips at the ends of the shoulder pad are nice for setting your camera down. The grip/extender acts as a third leg, keeping the camera upright, but leaning to the side; actually a nice angle for viewing playbacks.
