This is a take off of the recent thread: I need a New Look for 2017. What's your fave interview lens besides the 70-200?

So here's the results below. If you have a favorite Go-To lens for the typical size room, please add a post but NAME that lens in the first sentence, OK? Thus far I will look into the Sigma 18-35

JP NOLA Sigma 18-35
C PRESTON 90mm TSE & 85 1.2
STEPHEN NICK Leica 50, Summicron-R w/EF adapter
ERIC COUGHLIN Sigma 18-35 or 24 & 35 primes
MATT 100 macro (but which one?)
CHAPELLE Zeiss 50 1.4 for primary, 85 for tight side angle
RUN & GUN CN-E 135 2.2 or a 50, 85 1.3
COMBAT ENTROPY 35 prime or a 50 w/FF
ALASKA DUDE Sigma 18-35
MORGAN MOORE 50mm on S35, Nikor 35-70
MARK SMITH 85, or else 24,35 or 50
REMSY Contax Zeiss 35 for wide, 85 or 100 for tight
JIM FEELY Sigma 50-100 1.8
PURE DRIFTING 28 & 50 1.8
KLK Likes old pre-AI Nikors and old Russian lenses
BILL T CN-E 30-105 & 70-200 L
DOUG EX Sigma 18-35

I would add the Canon 24-70 2.8 II or Tamron 24-70 2.8.

I'm surprised the Sigma 50-100 F1.8 isn't more prevalent. I don't have it yet. I'm still waiting to sort out whether my next camera will be Sony or Canon. But that's probably going to be my next purchase and my go to interview lens. Gives more control over framing than 50mm prime and isn't overly telephoto like the 70-200mm.

Optically fantastic, but be careful of the focus breathing for video.

I find lenses that are 2.8 a bit limiting in terms of what can be done to manage DOF to taste. The sweet spot for me with the C300 is 1.8 to 2.5 depending on focal length. On an 85 prime many times 2.8 is sufficient, though on shorter focal lengths having a wider stop is an advantage, which is why I veer off towards the primes for interviews.
