GH3 Requests for firmware upgrades

too many here are forgetting that despite what Panasonic SAYS, the GH3 is targeting 'aspiring' sem-pros.
Too may here are semipros aspiring to be pros and the GH3 is not going to make them happy.

Professionals are not defined by the camera they use, they are defined by how they use the camera.

How about an actual in-depth audio section:

I certainly wouldn't argue with it, but removing AGC and returning to the Panny standard of a Limiter might be easier and more doable. (Assuming it's not a hard circuit and works on the Venus Engine. If AGC is a circuit, we're boned.)

That would be fantastic news, especially the disappearing info thing. Thx for the update, keylight!
Keep in mind that the only thing we now know will be in the firmware will be the intervalometer fix. But here's hoping for more!

Onscreen display disappearing, onscreen display disappearing, onscreen display disappearing...

I was actually shooting something this weekend and realized how important this information is, I had to keep hitting the display button which was driving me crazy..... We need an update to correct this

I saw a youtube video where the GH3 was plugged into a monitor. After 5 mins everything goes black. From what I read most of you just lose the info on the LCD not the video itself?

This is such a light and portable camera, more auto features for better control in R&G shooting would be useful. I would like to see exposure compensation useable when shooting video in M mode, and auto ISO (plus exposure comp) when shooting in creative movie mode.

You can set the ISO to Auto in creative movie mode (for P, A, and S but not for M). Also for a good understanding of shooting video in all the modes, check out my post in this thread.

As for changing exposure compensation in manual (M) mode..... You can do this. It's called opening/closing the aperture, increasing/decreasing the shutter speed, or changing the sensitivity of the sensor by changing the ISO.

Do you mean adjusting the exposure compensation using EV +/- in M? You may have a misunderstanding of what EV is and how it works. EV is a measure of how much light the sensor picks up given any particular combination of aperture, shutter, and ISO (ISO being the sensitivity of the sensor). Changing the EV value means increasing or decreasing the amount of light entering the camera and/or changing the sensitivity of the sensor. There are only two ways to change the amount of light coming in:

1. open up the aperture
2. slow down the shutter

Add in changing the sensitivity of the sensor (ISO) and that's all the camera has for controlling light.

Assuming you're on Auto ISO, when you change the EV+1 with the EV button in A, S, and P, you are saying to the camera, "Hey camera... change the aperture, shutter and/or ISO however much you need to in order to let in more light in than what you automatically do!"

In A mode (aperture priority) the camera will do that by changing the shutter speed or the ISO (because you've told the camera YOU will pick the aperture). In S mode (shutter priority) you tell the camera only to change the aperture or ISO (because you've told the camera YOU will pick the shutter speed). In P mode, you let the camera decide what to change.

But in M mode, you are telling the camera, "HEY! Don't you dare change the aperture, shutter speed, OR the ISO. I want to control all of those!" So if you're in control of all three, what other option does the camera have left to increase the amount of light hitting the sensor?

There are no other options, so there is nothing left to control with the EV button.

I understand what Manual mode means, or should mean. But you'll see if you try to shoot video in Manual mode (NOT creative video mode set to M, but setting the dial on top of the camera to M mode), the camera defaults to auto ISO. I don't even think it's possible to shoot video with manual ISO in Manual mode. However, this is actually a useful feature, since there's no other way to lock down the aperture and shutter speed and still get auto exposure while shooting video (I like to be able to shoot with a fixed aperture and SS for creative purposes, but also auto expose in R&G situations). Since the camera has a way to compensate for the meter's stupidity, called exposure compensation, it would be nice to have control over this feature when shooting video in this mode (one could also call this sensitivity compensation, BTW). The manual claims this is possible but it is not. Why would someone want this? ANY time I shoot auto exposure I want to underexpose by at least 1/3 to lessen the chance of blown highlights. That said, however, I find that the GH3's meter matrix is better than I expected.

You might also say that I could just use the AE lock in these situations, but aside from it being a far less accurate way to adjust exposure, it doesn't work.

Just buy a good variable ND filter like the Genus Eclipse and use that to adjust exposure. By far the best way I have come across when wanting to keep aperture and shutter speeds constant.
