GH3 Requests for firmware upgrades

I was just reading a review of the GH3 and the reviewer was told by a Panasonic rep that Panasonic would consider adding focus peaking and zebras if there was demand for these things. Lets show them there is demand. So add your name and lets get a good count going! Add any other REASONABLE requests (things easily addressed in firmware), such as the info disappearing, etc. When we are done I will send this thread in to Panasonic.

List of features that would be extremely helpful to GH3 users/owners.

1.) Focus Peaking
2.) Zebras
3.) Option to keep on screen info from disappearing

Same 3 but in order
1) stop screen info from disappearing
2) Focus Peaking
3) Zebras
4) Improved Wifi video features (even just basic full control via wifi would be great)
5) pro picture profiles for video. Optimized for flattest reasonable 8 bit profile
6) Panasonic official bitrate improvement on All-I modes. HQ mode warning for certain cards. 150mb/s bitrate. Let the codec breath for pro users. Lots of warnings but make it standard.

I will second the origional poster.

Focus Peaking
Zebras
Option to keep onscreen display from disappearing

I vote for the same 3 items.
I don't want to take advantage of the opportunity and just list a bunch of random requests. These 3 are, by far, the most important. Thank you.

Are we sure that Panasonic read dvxuser threads or does anyone know what channels there are for direct communication to request firmware updates? It's not that I think this is the wrong place, just that I think this is too important to leave it to chance that Panasonic might read this, or could this thread be posted to them once it gets long enough?

anyway +1

Focus peaking - critical focus is a real issue for Gh3
On screen display would be beneficial.

Send Panasonic's Twitter account this URL, they won't reply as they're not that professional yet with their Twitter dealing (bitchy of me LOL, but it's true), but I'm fairly sure it'll get passed on, and likely ignored, but what the hell what's there to lose!

Actually if you get a decent number of responses, Tweet the thread URL to @43rumors on Twitter as I'm sure they'll repost the link or summarise the suggestions.

I think that other than the 3 functions already mentioned, it is worthy to remember panasonic to improve wifi capabilities when shooting video.
Once you start rolling via wifi, all controls are grayed out and wifi become useless even for stopping the camera.
Please Panny allow us to keep control of the camera via our iPad/smartphone when it is recording!

I actually don't have that much problem with focus, but I use it with an external monitor about 70% of the time.

Zebras would be nice (with selectable range) and really if they can make a live histogram they can make a wfm display (or a pseudo wfm) with a scale.

Upgrade the lumix live app so you can start and stop video remote.

Also, I don't think they need lens communication to display a T-value, I think that would be somewhat useful. . .until you inevitably begin using ND.

Peaking is my number one request. Focus in Red (FIR) would be great, but options for White, Blue, or Green, would be even better. Unfortunately this feature can be a bit processor intensive & may be the hardest to pull off.

Zebras would be #2.

#3 would be Focus Distance readout with electronic m4/3 lenses, like the AF100 is capable of.

All of these features, & more, were requested in Panasonic sponsored round tables & I'm sure they are aware of our desires. I know they needed to leave some off of Firmware 1.0 to get it out the door, but they've been mum on what may eventually be added. Overall I give them high praise for incorporating what they did.

All these things sound great but I'd really wish they'd fix some of the bugs first.
1. If you power on an HDMI monitor, then connect the camera and power on the camera, you're unable to shut off the camera. You have to pull out the battery and put it back in to reset the camera.
2. The camera doesn't reset to the last used white balance, i.e. custom white balance, when it's power cycled. Instead, the camera reverts to AWB. The manual states that the camera is supposed to go back to the last used white balance.
3. On a few occasions, I've had the camera start recording and then stop at the 1-2s mark.

And for heavens sake, change the disappearing info thing!

When we reach a good number of users, I'm going to send it on to Panasonic. I like the idea of tweeting it to them as well. This camera was designed with a similar approach to some of the Panasonic professional cams like the HVX and the AF100. They asked a lot of people in the business what they would like to see and implemented a good deal of those requests. The fact that they told an early reviewer they would consider adding extras in a firmware update (if there was demand) was the catalyst for this thread.
I've seen similar threads concerning other cameras, but many of those were either created out of frustration, or just asked for things that would be unreasonable.
This is about a couple of small firmware changes that would make an already great camera just about perfect for what it is. ;)

Given the Rec Highlight functions as a basic zebra, and the histogram - zebras don't seem to be as critical as the other two. I would replace it with "full audio control" to defeat the stupid limiter.
We rarely record audio to camera but when I need to, I need to control it.
But again for Panasonic's sake - basic peaking and allowing for the information to remain displayed is just something that needed to be included from day one.
They should be pushed out in a quick "patch" while working on any longer term FW upgrade.

same 3 as 007 in fist post. Then:

4. In movie mode and shutter prioriry, when in auto iso I want to be able to dial into +/- exposure and adjust that manually to over or underexpose.
5. It would be great if the modes like M, A, P, S of the main wheel would apply to movies as well. I don't understand, why in these modes, movies are shot in auto, when there is a dedicated movie record button at the back of the cam.
7. Time code out throught the remote port or wireless with an app that outputs an audio LTC signal on a smartphone.
6. AES audio-in through the mic jack that enables 4 recorded digital channels would be perfect.

I totaly agree with you.
Hopefully Panasonic will do something with all of this thread.

As an added support for GH3 users, there's a GH3 page in Facebook > Panasonic GH3
The page admin is connected with Panasonic .
I'll ask him to build a wish list.
We can post lists there directly.
Update. A wish list has been started on fb.......
