when ever I render my videos and leave them uncompressed I cannot play them back in any of my players ie: Windows Media Player, RealMedia, Winamp; with out them going reallllllly slow whats the deal with this. If I can't view my videos uncompressed then what should I be rendering them as to keep as much quality as possible? thanx in advance

Re: Rendering Problems

What NLE are you using to render your video? If a section for your NLE exists on this board, you might want to ask your question there to get a better answer.

Also, are you rendering as an uncompressed raw AVI, or a DV AVI with no compression added?

Re: Rendering Problems

Well first of all your going to need SCSI drives to play back uncompressed material properly. You may be able to get away with a G5 and its SERIAL ATA's for 8bit, but for broadcast 10bit your gonna have to spend some serious money, considering the average 73GB SCSI HD costs $430.00. Also, ld have your timeline set to DV and export it to mpeg2 from DV. Any other change in codec could result in color shifts and quality loss.

Take care-

Re: Rendering Problems

The only real purpose for rendering an uncompressed file is when you need to do multi-generational compositing, or for titles with an alpha channel (titles and other CG deteriorate fastest over the generations).
Uncompressed files are huge and won't really playback smoothly on any "average" system. I have found that in Vegas, I can go down several generations of regular DV without taking any kind of quality hit, except for titles, which are added on the final pass).
Render to DV and save yourself a lot of grief.
Just my .02.
