remote zoom rocker

The dual speed control on the PH-9 sets the max zoom speed, the rocker is still variable like the fuji lens but the max speed is limited to the pre-set.

The ZC-9 does not have a two stage pre-set and is just constantly variable like the fuji lens.

They both work very well and I have done some very nice slow zooms on a horror film with just the ZC-9 and with the PH-9.

Hoi Gary,

Which one do you prefer best and why? Is there a (praktical) reason you have both versions? I have the feeling that the rocker is smaller on the PH-9 and therefore maybe the zooming goes less smooth but maybe I am wrong it is just a feeling based on the pictures. I ask you because I don't have the possibility to try them out at a dealer moreover I probably even have to order one abroad since there seems not to be a dealer in The Netherlands.

Hi they were both e-bay bargains so that is why I ended up with both.

The handle PH-9 one I use on my main tripod and the clip on one is on my 2nd tripod, they both work equally well but the zoom rocker on the clip on one ZC-9 is larger so is easier to use and more flexible as you can clip it anywhere you want.

Ok i will just get the one which will be available immediately since i really need it soon. I will be making a promo for a Museum not an easy job since museum is small and relative dark.

I would get the ZC-9 first and it is very flexible and good value for money, then keep a look out for a PH-9 at a good price on e-bay.

I think it is useful to have both but if you just wish to buy one the ZC-9 is the more flexible and does the job.

Does anyone have any experience with the Bebob ZOE ENG-8 zoom controller. Relative expensive but I heard it is very good especially when starting very slow zooms.

Hi Cees,

i have the Bebob and i like it. You can adjust the speed with a little wheel and the whipe is very accurate. So yes, you can do really slow zooms with it.

Hi Emmet,

Thanks for sharing your experience. I now have 3 options (all new) :

Libec ZC-9 PRO 135 euro
Libec PH-9/S 145 euro
Bebob ZOE-ENG-8 339 euro

Since I have not the possibility to test them (none of the dealers have them in stock) I have to make my decision based on your experience. The Libec PH9 has probably the best price/quality ratio and the bebob is probably the best controller (+5 years garanty) but much more expensive. The ZC-9 pro has not the option to set the max zoom speed but is cheapest. Decision is more difficult for me than buying an expensive cam. Important for me is not to get hikups at slow zoom speeds. Still hope that I get some more experiences from members of this terrific site.

The add does not say if it is the PH-9/V or the PH-9/S. I send him a message but I think he is probably not on-line a lot. Still am a bit worried about the small rocker on the PH-9 compared to the ZOE_ENG-8 which also has a variable max speed setting and as i understand the PH-9 has only 2 settings. Hmmm think think ......... have some time untill it is monday before i have to make a decision :-)

I can offer no more advice as compared to the investment in the camera and rest of the kit this is very small and you pays yer money and makes your choice!

I have libec tripods so having the same zoom controls made sense to me, I have done a major drama with a PH-9 and done some very slow zooms that match slow tracking shots as they were so smooth.

I only want something that fullfills my needs nothing more nothing less.
A final question which is still not completely clear. The rocker on the PH9 delivers continues variable speed when pushed either site or there is only 1 speed (actually 2 speeds when you change that two speed button). Again I am not familiar with remote zoom controllers at all that is why I ask so many questions. And I can only spend my money once.

As a final comment if you want the best then you need one of these:http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Fujinon-SRD-9...rAccess_RL&hash=item3a5f339f30#ht_2266wt_1139
And at £250 that is an absolute bargain for both units that would be well over £1,000 new, I wish I had the funds myself!

The rocker on the the PH-9 delivers variable speed it is only the maximum zoom speed that is changed with the two settings.

Imagine it as 0-100% or 0-50%

Thanks, I will go for the PH-9/S if it is still available because they only had one in stock left :-)

Edit : bad luck the PH9 was already sold, so I ordered the Bebob Zoe-ENG-8

I received the Bebob ZOE-ENG-8. It is smaller than I had in mind (which for me is a positive thing) and it is very sturdy. All functions of this zoom controller work with the HPX300. Tomorrow i will shoot my first project with this controller.

During my first shoot I experienced that the focus assist (electronic zoom) did sometimes not function anymore. I am not sure if it is related to the zoom controller but I never experienced it before. Switching the cam completely off and on again solved the problem but it makes me a little worry.
