David Newman says it will be possible 4K@home (from the PC side especially @non-expensive realms like the Premiere is):

We just demonstrated real-time online 4K RAW editing (dual stream dissolve with Dalsa Origin footage) to Adobe management under Premiere Pro 2.0 running on a Dual core dual proc Xeon Woodcrest system (about $3K PC with two drives in RAID-0.) So it can be done today, although we aren't shipping this technology yet, but we intend this be available for Red customers as the alternative workflow (for those who can't stand offline workflows.) This a simple extension of the now shipping CineForm RAW workflow. So even with the purchase of our software the system costs will be doable at $5k for a Red online.

Well, if you're considering a Mac, be sure you're doing it for the right reasons -- do you want a Mac? Is there something for the Mac that you want to use which you can't get on Windows?

I ask because a lot of people have been saying they're buying Macs to run Windows on, not because they want Macs, but because they think Windows or Windows apps will run better on them. They won't. I'm not saying they run poorly, either, but if you're looking to run Windows, then there's no reason to spend the exta $$$$ on a Mac.

I haven't looked for a laptop for a while, but when I have, I've usually found that HP gives you the best bang for your buck.

I think it would be useful to open a proper space in order to discuss possible options @PC_side.

What are your best intentions?

I don't see what the diffrence is anymore. Buy a computer with intel chips mac, othr brand or build your own and install whatever OS has your fav NLE. Personally I am going to build and use premiere. But if for some reason I don't like it You can always do a osx hack on a pc and run final cut.

is it so easy?.. and reliable?..

Well, the idea wasn't to go to the hacking realm but... whatever...

On the taskbars and start menus concern, still less or more correctly, I mentioned: options (NLEs, workflow, hardware, etc).

But if you wish to talk about how to do an osx hack, so be it.

Not gonna talk about how to do it but there is plenty of information out there and it is quit simple to do. from what I hear it is just just like running a osx on a mac as long as your hardware is compatible.

sorry me but your slang language isn't easy to follow for a non-english speaker.. what it means "to scream" me knows very well what it is.. but what do you mean here with this "SCREAMS"?..

:thumbdown ?

or

 ?

thx

I haven't installed any of the drivers at all, I think most stuff was automatically recognized (like video, audio & network). However, I'm in California now and my Mac Pro system is at home. Won't be able to check for a week.

Rob,

Aside my completely ignorance on OS & apps, I'm surprised regarding this apparent (or effective) compatibility.

Can you help my future laptop purchase?

'cause if I have the opportunity to have two OS (Mac: OSX & Tiger -- isn't it? PC: Windows & Vista) working without hassles, full operative with any external apps dedicated to a windows/vista environment... Then, I'll buy a MacBook Pro. :)

On the Intel Mac's you can run Windows, however, only Windows XP SP2 is "supported. So I would not recommend installing anything else.

Writing about this I suddenly remember that I had to do some very technical steps to get Vista to install though! So I would definitely not recommend it to everyone.

Hopefully it'll be properly supported in a new Bootcamp version.

No, I just remembered the installation hassle. Forgot about that, sorry. Once it is installed it runs okay though.
