RED taking reservations now!

I'm glad that I didn't buy the HVX since I didn't need it. By the time this comes out I might be back in the market. What an amazing looking product!!!

I just need to hear more before I'm willing to plunk down for a deposit although it's tempting. We'll see.

OK, so I have about 8 months to get myself out of this stinking computer programmer career and into filmmaking fulltime so I can justify getting one of these babies!

Where's the footage? I'm really curious about this euphoria over a camera that has taken no footage (I haven't seen any), actual product photos, description of workflow and so on.

Not saying it isn't going to happen, but I've seen more from the G35 guys than we have of the Mysterium camera. Where the heck is TC?!

At last! Someone has there feet on the ground.

At present it is a stylish paper weight. I am looking forward to the finished product.

With all due respect to the mods, who usually have their feet firmly on the ground, I just think the RED flag-waving of late is a little much. For DVXUser, a site that has so struggled with containing the recent "my camera versus your camera" debates, it simply seems odd.

Again, I have nothing but respect for the board and the mods, just a constructive criticism - nothing more.

RED, like the DVX and the HVX and the Genesis and the D20 and the Viper is just another arrow in the quiver. It might well be another vital piece of the on-going digitial filmmaking revolution picture, but filmmakers aren't made by owning a camera - they're enabled. Like the HVX and DVX and so forth, it is up to the creator to get it done.

By the way, if you want to reserve the Red, get on line---I tried calling the number and got a message that they have been flooded----They did say they would get back to me but when and how is anyone's guess.

sounds liek a lot of PR hype! "sorry call back cause we're flooded with calls" sounds like PR BS. I'm from NYC and I've seen a lot. NYC is run on hype. THIS red camera again is a concept . they haven't even RELEASED REAL PHOTOS for god's sake and they are asking me to dish out 1000 greenbacks. At least the camera that came out the other day by silicon imaging had actual pictures, even if they weren't the greatest.

The design of the RED maybe will change since it's just a rendered model done probably in MAYA.

I say to RED come out with some FOOTAGE, pictures of the camera, workflow and stills before you start asking us to dish out one grand.

thank you very much

EDIT: grammer

the thing that i don't understand is that this camera looks like it will be released mid next year so why shoiuld i pay 1 grand, one never knows what could happen in between time. I just don't see this happening this year. it's April. they don't even have footage or actual FOTOS...etc.

So you'll be the first to have one. And it's a refundable deposit, so it's not so bad. But I'm with you. I'm not shedding a cent until I see some footage.

Anyone who thinks today's "unveiling" has made any other camera maker nervous doesn't know much.

I'm not sure what you're saying. Are you saying that other camera makers are so entrenched in their markets that no one is going to jump ship to Red? Are you saying that other camera makers already knew the price point of red before today's announcement? Are you saying that other camera makers can easily beat the abilities and specs of Red during the next few years? Or are you saying that other camera makers are too arrogant to see the potential of a new product?

What exactly do we not know?

Healthy skepticism is certainly in order, but I've got mine reserved. I started calling right after the site was up, finally got through an hour ago. It's a leap of faith, but low risk in my opinion. And it's not like you'll have to go through a series of middlemen if there's any problems.

There has been already 100 reservations placed, according to HDforIndies!
I made my reservation and got camera 0000080. I'm stoked to have one of the first 100 Red cameras ever made! They're going to be making and selling them directly, so no more "I signed up in March with Company X and was 14th in line, but they only got 7 shipments and now everyone else who just placed their order last week with Company Y is picking them up for $1,000 less with no wait time." Not naming names or anything...

My advice is, if you're even remotely interested in the camera, put the money down and get in line. Given the fact that the deposit is completely refundable, you'd be silly not to. My guess is that in 9 months when this thing finally becomes a reality, the demand is going to surge - and who knows how many production units will be available in the beginning stages of the release. If you decide in December that you are interested in the camera, you may be waiting several months to get one if you don't have a spot.
