Red Scarlet footage anyone?

Well, thats part of the thing here. Scarlet prices will go up after Jan 1st. Just how many people have bought Scarlets because of this? LOTS! LOTS of HDSLR converts too.

Well you can always buy it now, if it's not what you want, sell it for less than the higher price after Jan 1st. I sold my AF100 for VERY close to what I paid for it. I will probably get most of my money out of my FS100 as well. It's not like you are stuck with it if you want something else.

I'd rather secure my mortgage :cheesy: and make money with what I have now. Then, if I want a Scarlet, buy one for far less after Canon, Sony, JVC, and panny put out 4K solutions.

But have a look at this shot on 5dmk2...http://vimeo.com/24982650

Wow! How's that for a short? Thanks so much for posting this!

It makes me wonder even more, that 90% of the people spending their money on these cameras, but all for the wrong reasons "I can shoot raw, or it shoots 4K..." for what, I ask? What are you going to do with it? That is the question...

All you really need is a decent enough piece of equipment (such as a DSLR) and plenty of hard work and talent, and that's the only thing that will ever make you a filmmaker/cinematographer. Not owning a Red just because it shoots raw...!

And this video shows that 100%!

but if you have 500000$ tomorrow, will you still shoot with a 5d or will you buy an alexa/epic?
and you said before you were shooting with alexa. then why not with 5d?

Read through this thread.

Read???? I want to see! I asked because amazingly there is nothing out there shot by Red itself to show how the camera works. Ted from Red said in one of his promotional stunts that at the time there was no footage to show because the camera was going to be given to this amazing cinematographers to show it at its best. And guess what? That did not happened. Epic is Epic and Scarlet is Scarlet. Why do we have to look at Epic footage when the Scarlet is out there already. What a great way to do business.

I can understand the confusion - a camera is announced and put on sale with essentially no footage associated with it. Plenty of people obviously feel comfortable purchasing based on 1) RED ONE 4K footage, 2) Epic 5K footage and 3) past "prototype Scarlet" footage. It is unusual for a camera manufacturer (even RED) not to provide a reel of their camera.

I also understand that people want to see more than a couple of flowers, some waves, and some headshots. I think that in about one or two weeks, after significantly more people take delivery of their camera, we will have plenty to look at as vimeo/youtube videos, as .mov downloads, as .jpg .png and .tif stills, and as full .r3d files.

That being said, I think many would have preferred RED to say "Here's Scarlet, on sale now. And here are 3 1080p high quality downloads, and here are four .r3d files - tests fast motion, high light handling, skin tones, and low light. Load them into RC-X Pro and see how you like our new camera!"

But they didn't...and so we wait.

If I had do dash out 50.000, I would spend it on women and coke!

I shoot on the Alexa, because they are paid jobs, and if my production company has the budget for an Alexa, then I prefer it to the 5D. But if I have less money for a film and enough to option for a Red, I still prefer the 5D. As i have in the past, many times. But that's just me.

So if you want to see what a camera looks like, but not buy it, you want the C300.

And if you want to buy a camera without seeing what it looks like, you want the Scarlet.

Yes, really?

Is that enough to convince anyone to spend 10.000$??? It doesn't even qualify as decent!

I was just teasing dustylens who likes to be grumpy concerning the scarlet ^^
but then again, 10000$ or 15000$ is nothing for most of the professionals. the majority of the photographers i know have digital medium format that exceed this price, or have many different cameras depending on their needs. I don't say it's cheap for everybody, but any serious job needs some expense and even if you can make some great stuffs with a 5d or even a hv20, there is a time when you grow and you need something more serious. then there is several solutions: trying to work with the 5d within its limitations or expand these limitations. Then again, people can rent or, if they have some money apart from the one for food, women and coke, they can buy. but yeah, people who don't have the money should keep their camera and rent when they have serious jobs. a lot of different possibilities.
I guess the price of the scarlet is attractive enough so people buy it without any footage.
If there is a 5d markIII tomorrow without any footage, they will sell tons of them the first day.
Cheapness is relative.

Price, features, and recent history. Many people who own Epics or who have shot on Epic (or even just seen Epic footage) and understand that the Scarlet will be using the same sensor, the same codec at a slightly higher compression (6:1 instead of the commonly used 5:1 on Epic), and very similar (though less powerful) internal processing components feel that all of that adds up to a camera worth owning. I think one of the most interesting tests to come from the camera with be Epic at 5:1 4K 24fps and Scarlet 6:1 4K 24fps. How big will that difference be?

Understandably, people who haven't seen much RED footage or think that RED will be making too big of a sacrifice in terms of image quality with the Scarlet, or just haven't liked the RED footage they've seen in the past will want to see footage pretty badly. This group of folks is, unfortunately, underfed at the moment.

And there are, of course, the savvy shoppers who will only buy something they are absolutely sure of - they'll want to see a lot more than just some vimeo footage. In fact, they'll probably drop by a rental house to check one out and maybe take it out for a spin. When Scarlets begin shipping en masse they will be more satisfied.

and scarlet is better than the red mx (apart from frame rates and 4.5k 2:40). less compression (6:1 vs 7.5:1), 16bits vs 12bits and hdrx.

You got to be kidding right? The owner is a pro but that footage is not proof of anything. Every single camera company makes at least a few well shot samples available at the time of an announcement. It is just pathetic that Red makes the biggest announcement in their history and they don't have even 3 seconds of footage to show. Only fanboys applaud this kind of nonsense.

calm down. I'm not kidding or applauding to anything. you asked for footages, I just put the links of the only available ones. I personally hate these flowers, landscapes, people-doing-nothing closeups that are "blooming" all over vimeo and youtube. But hey, at least, he made the effort. And he will post some more interesting stuff this week end.
