Red Raven Official

Why can't everything seen in that clip not be done by a much less expensive camera?

That guy is shooting stills and in RAW, 1 frame at a time, in RAW. Thats what RAVEN does in RAW at 120 FPS. And a very friendly RAW at that. Thats why.

I didn't noticed any XLR imput for microphones, how they could be used with Raven?

With this handy add on module.

16.5+ stops of dynamic range? Is that legit?
Pretty much all dynamic range specifications by manufacturers are suspect. It comes down to, “Can you really discern the almost-microscopic difference of one less stop in the noisy shadows, and if so, is this actually going to be useful in a real-life situation?” Sometimes it’s more subjective than objective.

Hello there, I’m pretty confused between REDCODE COMPRESSION and TYPICAL MAX RECORDING TIME USING RED MINI-MAG 120GB. For example I’ve read that at 3:1 maximum available REDCODE for 4.5K (4608 × 2160) at 24 fps means also that I could have a 3:1 compression also with a 120GB Mini Mag or Do I need a much bigger Mini Mag to have minor compression? Assuming that USING RED MINI-MAG 120GB at 4.5K (4608 × 2160) and 24 fps at 11:1 REDCODE compression we’ll have 52 minutes of footage, Can I select a compression 3:1 instead of 11:1? In this case do I need a more expensive card like 512 Mini Mag or 1TB?

The higher quality and resolution you choose, the less space on the card. You either need more cards to keep up with production or you need to constantly dump footage on location (would need at least 2 cards in most situations). You can also choose to shoot lower quality/compression to save space.

Thanks NorBro, I'm asking this because 11:1 compression seems to be too much compressed. For example, Do you know the Carrion footage with what settings was shooted? What I really need is to know how long a 120GB mag lasts on say 3 to 1 and 5 to 1, exactly. Thanks

I'm not sure what the compression ratio was for "Carrion", but this is one of those arguments where it really depends on what's best for you. Some people will shoot the highest quality possible, and some will shoot very compressed and will be satisfied with how it looks.

Have you seen this?

Yes, thanks but unfortunately RED RAVEN cannot be selected as choice in this online calculator, what Do I must choice in the calculator Epic Dragon for similarities or it's not important?

Thanks! It's about time somebody fleshed out the downsides. The cult of red usually stays put at reduser snobs.net but inevitably you see it spilling over to forums like this one that cater to actual working videographers (sorry, was I supposed to say "filmmakers"??? Whatevs.)

You can get the exact number for Raven if you select Epic, mini mag, 4KHD and the mag size you have. It should be exactly the same.

Whew. Read this whole thread. I passively absorbed the news of Raven months ago, but haven't paid attention since.

I've recently started thinking more about it and I'm intrigued at the prospect of such a camera. I'm anxious to see some more samples from the camera.
