I just heard that the Red prototype got stolen.

A gal from CA on another forum said her paper said this:

It says "A prototype for a digital cinema camera that creators say will revolutionize the cinematography industry was stolen last last month from the Lake Forest office where it was being tested, authorities said Tuesday.
Red Digital Camera Co., the brainchild of Oakley sunglass creator Jim Mannard, is in the process of perfecting RED ONE, a high-performance 4K digital camera that promises to deliver the quality of 35mm film with the ease of a camcorder at a bargain prices. "Losses could venture into the millions" if the technology is compromised, said Jim Amormino, a spokesman for the Orange County Sheriff's Department.
The article goes on to say that Sheriff's investigators are trying to determine whether Red was the victim of industrial espionage or run-of-the-mill thieves. Several other neighborhood businesses have had their windows smashed and property stolen in recent weeks. Hundreds of people but down $1,000 deposits to buy RED ONE at the NAB conference.

Anyone know anything?

Isn't this just the break in from the other week? Pretty sure they reported the prototype was stolen then... don't think the chip was necessarily taken or at least comprimised. It was quite a big deal incase you missed the thread, had a few thousand hits on it and a shedload of replies. Or are you posting because you thought they hadn't taken the prototype originally?

Appearantly old news, sorry didn't catch the other thread. So where are things now??

Investigation - with the Sheriff

Red Stuff - with the thieves or, worse case scenario, the competition

Other than that nothing much else has been said about it :)

The theives didn't get away with anything that put a big dent in RED's plans. They got a non-working prototype and lots of computer gear. Terrible, yes, but RED is moving on full steam ahead. Since the break in, they've managed to post the first public video file from the sensor and have made mention that they're still on course to meet their scheduled targets. Nothing to worry about (though you did miss a lot of drama)! :)
