Is it me or has the flip out LCD screen disappeared from the latest renders on the Red site.

Has this idea been replaced by the optional viewfinder?

silly me looks like now its just been given wings and can mount anywhere
 
RED hasn't confirmed the exact technology of the screen yet. It could be LCD, OLED, SED, LCoS, Nano LCoS, or something new. Yeah, it's totally mobile, mount it wherever you like.

does this mean you'd have to have the RED Cage to be able to use the monitor.

I mean is there any option to have this just clipped to the side of the camera directly for handheld shooting? or is the idea now to have the rails or cage mounted permanently?
 
There will be several of stainless steel hard points on the camera body to which you can mount anything, including the screen. If you're using the cage or rail, you can put it anywhere on them also. In short, it looks like you can mount the screen anywhere that fits the camera configuration you are using.

I believe there have been no plans for an optical viewfinder from day one. There will be a digital viewfinder with digital overscan available. I do not believe it is dependent on the cage.
 
Hmm...we're not talking about viewfinders here, but rather the detachable screen. You're correct. No OVF available for RED One. EVF is optional and projected to be available in mid-2007, subject to change of date.

Check the renders, what's that viewscreen on the back of the body?

I thought that might be what the "monitor" turned into.

That screen on the back of body I believe is a info sceen only. I don't think it was ment to be a monitor. Could be wrong...would not be the first time.
 
In the renders released at IBC, there's a larger screen mounted on the top/back of the camera body. That's the primary detachable/remountable screen, that can be placed anywhere on the camera body, cage, etc. The smaller one below it, on the back of the camera may be a mockup for a data screen for camera setup, menu use, etc., although I'm just guessing at that.

In the original NAB design the LCD was incorporated into the camera body much like the DVX or HVX.

The rear of the camera had 2 slots which were or could have been for RED solid state recording (REDFLASH)or HDD slot(REDRAID?) and a battery slot.

What has changed (as far as I can tell) the fixed monitor has been discarded for an offboard monitor that can be mounted anywhere on the camera.

Battery mount and HDD magazine have also been taken offboard.

The area at the back of the camera now shows what may be a small LCD screen for menu info.

NAB New York is the next major trade show. Looking forward to more design work and test footage(maybe!)
