We have announced that we will have a high speed RAW output port. With a module you can connect to the port and output via Infiniband, dual fiber or whatever future option comes along.
Jim

That's what I love about this camera, everytime you announce a feature - there are a bunch of people who go "That's just what I wanted!".

You read my email I sent you Jim, the dual-fiber option would be beautiful for the type of application I am looking at. Being able to keep my storage topside where it is safe, as well as saving me space onboard, just excellent!

And, BTW, all outs are hot. You can output RAW high speed, out the dual HD-SDI and record to REDFLASH or RED-DRIVE all at the same time... how 'bout that.

That's pretty awesome, actually.

This may get me :kali: but is there a low-res monitor out too? Is that something that you cinema guys need/use?

Marry me, Jim. :love4: :cheesy: :)

Forgive me if i'm presuming, Jim, but I seem to remember that the intent was for the red to be a paradigm shift for digital cinema design, AWAY from the over-complexity of the 'video camera' based workflows of products like the cinealta, back towards the economy of film camera control.

Recording format
Speed (Fps)
Audio, input/levels
Sensitivity ( +/- db, or, more preferably, equivalent asa rating)
Color ( daylight/tungsten)
Record start/stop

You want ND's or Polas'? they go in the matte box, where we're used to putting them.

Metadata input would be handled by a seperate remote, ( bluetooth?)
This would be something that the scripty or AC could do whilst setup is going on.....actually here's a thought, give the camera an I.P address, notes could be added to metadata at any time by laptop via wirless or wired.
The point is that the camera itself should not present a major shift in operation for an experienced film crew, it is after all a Red "Digital cinema" camera.
Further control is obviously possible( via remote, wireless, bluetooth etc.), but not necessary for basic camera function.

just more ideas

J

That seems so on-the-button to me.

Call me old fasioned, but how about a couple of fully asignable GPI's too?

On current camcorders LANC is all fine and dandy, except interfacing to it is a *****. I love the Analog input ports of the DVX and HVX. Give us, oh 3 or 4 chanels of dry contact closure, or how about variable analog (or just both in one) that we can assing as we wish. - Basicaly alow us to make custom external buttons. Hell, put a minature 7-pin lemo on there and let us set 6 external controlers to it.

Examples: Run/stop - remote for AC, or steadicam operator. BARS, or maybe INDEX mark for comon trigering. Let us make our own knob for our AC to ride gain or ramp framerate if we want. Have a GPI that we can use to fire off single frames so aftermarket handcranks are simple to make.
Just give us a couple of plain simple hardware inputs that we can freely assing in the menu.

High-tech digital is great, but when I'm in the field, I want to be able to just add a button, without needing a USB or WiFi interface to do it!

Idea is that camera records RAW, so white balance is done in the post. Or if you like, you can use cc filters in the matte box...

The over design seems alright....I would be a little concerned in populated areas if I was trying to shoot documentary footage....some people may think it was something other than a camera!
I thought the same when I saw it but I'm sure that Jim will find several distinctive operation setups to us in order to avoid any sort of confusion(s) like that.

The idea of the controls being on a joystick type breakout device connected by USB cable would be beyond amazing.

Anyone who has flown (real or sim) aircraft using something like the F-16's HOTAS stick will recognise how revolutionary this would be.

Imagine all the most common controls, a smooth rotary dial or two for running the variable framerate on top, trigger button for REC/STOP, some other buttons right where ergonomics would best place them... then have all that be PROGRAMMABLE via PC or something similar like the SD cards being incorporated....

No more bumping the camera as the controls would no longer be part of the physical body shell....

....then make it so that it mounts securely to the Red Cage if you want to put it on your shoulder, so that the controls are once again in the best possible place!

Hope my ideas spark someone at Red to create this, either as standard or as an addon. I think you'd have a hot seller on your hands :)

Thanks for inspiring a new generation of filmmakers....
