This may have already been adressed by the Red team, but having had some problems with firewire, USB and SATA ports/cables/conectors in the real world of professional digital cinematography, I'm hesitant to trust them.
I've got no problem with the data rates and technology themselves but the connectors are not built for the kind of every day abuse a feature film would put on them. That is why Lemo, Fischier and XLR connectors were invented.
What I would really like to see on Red Drive and Red Ram is a camera connection cable like the Lemo or Fischer and a rubber gasketed door which protected the more sensitive FW800/SATA ports. The drives should also be field repairable, so if the FW/Sata Board goes (Had this happen on a G-Drive)you can swap it out in 15 minutes and keep on shooting.
I know Oakley has manufactured Mil spec products before, so it's certainly not out of the relm of possibility. I just think a positive locking, weather sealed, high durability data-drive connection is a must.
