I would rather get a mini than have to drag a whole laptop around. Just consider it part of the Hydra cost. If somebody is too cheap or can't afford a mac-mini I see no point in buying Hydra when you will need about 250GB per hour of footage to record uncompressed. If you can’t afford an extra 500 you surely won’t be able to afford the storage. It's like saying you want to drive a Mercedes but can't afford to put gas in it. In that case just don't buy the Mercedes then.

You're right. Your Laptop is abotu the same if not better than a Mac Mini. This shoulda been the end of of it but--daveswan said:$500 equals, what, £250 ha ha....ha Over here mac minis are a damn sight more than £250, more like £500+++ ie plus storage, plus display, plus ram. And are they any faster than my 2.16 GHz dual-core laptop with 2GB ram, gigabit ethernet and an expresscard slot to take an eSATA card and drives?
What I'm saying is I ALREADY have the kit I need, and don't want to be buying more.

You're right, Mac Pro's just became PC's... at the price-tag of 2500. For outdated hardware. It's a fact that Apple makes it's money selling Hardware, not software. And it's all old.ragno said:This pc people, the lack of software on their platform really makes me wonder how people can buy into them  , it is going to be interesting to see if they are even going to support the RedOne on a pc... I forgot the new Macs are PCs and they can run virtually any software on earth and every operative system human kind could come up with..
I apologise but it is really funny to see how the world is changing.
The Hidra sounds fantastic and I really look forward to see some of the early adopters
do magic with it!!
Photographing in a RAW format it is going to give really great flexibility especially for Color Correction in "Color" and storage is becoming cheaper and cheaper, I just picked up 900 GB worth of HD Space for $250, this is a different world where Macs have an advantage on the other platforms, even if they are not perfect, and where somebody with an HVX can film uncompressed footage for 60/Hour worth of HD space it is 1$ a minute.
Thanks so much for the great innovation and for bringing the software on my favorite platform first
Cheers
Kholi said:Sorry. Like everyone else who uses both platforms and like both, it's annoying when people start spouting things that are simply biased and unfounded.

Kholi said:Sorry. Edited for jumping the gun.
Shoulda known better. Hand spank for me.
Kholi said:Sorry, I saw it as another "buy a mac" debate. I see now it was more on the lines of what you want to lug around and what you don't. Previous post edited... well outside of the cost of storage. You still haven't explained that one. =PPPP
One wonders if the lack of a published res chart image is because the number isn't flattering
