Recommended kit for the EVA1

I’ve asked about this, myself. However, as far as adapters for EVA1 handgrip bayonets to Arri rosettes go, Wooden Camera is releasing one pretty soon.

Several manufacturers have this adapter now. That way the Panasonic handgrip integrates into existing arm extensions. I have not seen any examples of an arm to mount directly to the camera or an Arri rosette adapter for the camera's handgrip mount. Note that it was not designed for such torque force, so I don't know if such a thing is a good idea. Not saying it wouldn't be perfectly fine, just saying I don't know.

I wouldn't want to support this camera from the grip flange, especially with a zoom and EVF like the Gratical mounted.

My solution was to make a simple plate from 2" aluminum angle (available at any hardware store) cutting most of the side off so it's a flat that fits between the bottom of the camera and the tripod plate. A portion of the angle that isn't cut off (right-front looking from the back) has an Arri rosette (from SmallRig) mounted, just under and starboard of the lens.

I bought a SHAPE grip extension with the camera from B&H and use that. It works well and doesn't stress the camera body.

I forgot to add that Vocas apparently makes a handgrip to Arri rosette adapter for the EVA, but I couldn't find it in the US, and it costs nearly as much as the SHAPE extension arm (which is made in Canada). The SHAPE is slick but too heavy for my tastes, so I don't use the rosette end with the button, but I'm sure some would like it.

Several companies make an EVA1 to Arri rosette adapter. Off hand I can think of Arri, Vocas and Tilta, and I'm sure there are others.

My email exchange with the SWIT from early December indicated a new battery announced end of Dec, shipping in January. I have emailed back for clarification, and have yet to hear anything.

Looking online, it does seem there is a SWIT battery (6000mh) that is EVA-1 compatible and has D-Tap?

Also, it seems there is an IDX battery that works with the EVA-1 and includes their technology, X-Tap? Can this be used as a standard power adaptor via a cable?

Will these existing batteries accomplish what we are after?

Those batteries do not have a 12v output.
Thanks Mitch. Will wait until there's a battery with proper 12v output.

But for now, Im using my Vmount batteries BUT I keep burning D-Tap to DC cables! :( Scared to damage the camera now. IndiPRO Tools D-Tap to DC cable stopped working the second time I unplugged it and the Wooden Camera D-Tap to DC Power cable too.

Any bullet proof D-Tap to DC cables out there???

I was able to follow up with the SWIT rep and received this reply:

Hello,

I am very sorry. It was my mistake.

We have several new batteries will release with D-Tap this year, but there are not for Panasonic EVA1.

I didn't pay attention on it.

Sorry.

So, SWIT is off the table for a 12v EVA1 battery. Only 7.2v.

I’m still waiting for them to announce. I have a couple samples they sent me recently so it’s definitely real and moving forward. I’m just not sure when this will be announced. The product works great.

When they announce I can clarify. It’s not for me to say otherwise.

FWIW, Core SWX used to be Switronix.

Great company, but I'm biased because I live near them, ha.

(My favorite product of theirs is the PB70.)
