Rebate question?

I'm moving this post over here from another thread because it seems Jan Crittenden watches this particular thread and I'd like to bring this situation to her attention:

I purchased my DVXb the last week of April. The paperwork went out May 5th. There was no form in the camera box for the DVX book, so we (Veronica Burks at Panasonic rebate and myself) went back-n-forth on this, trying to resolve it. B & H Photo wasn't much help, here. With Ms Burks' help I was able to obtain the book. It arrived about one month ago.

I waited patiently for the rebate, through the entire six to eight week period, but it hadn't arrived. At this point I contacted Ms Burks again and she promised to look into it. A short time later she informed me the rebate was sent to me on June 15th. Again, I waited. No rebate. Again, I contacted Ms Burks and she promised to look into it. Via email, Ms Burks informed me that the rebate check had been sent back to Advertsing Checking Bureau. I then confirmed my address and she assured me the check would be remailed. Via email, Ms Burks informed me the check was remailed on July 5th. It arrived yesterday. It was postmarked July 20th. Are you following me on this? Well, of course, I was delighted to finally receive the check and put an end to this frustrating episode. It's not over...

I opened the envelope- I swear to you, I had a hinkey feeling opening it. Very Hinkey. The check is in the amount of $200.00, not the $400.00 promised in the original terms. WTF???!!!

The original rebate agreement under which I purchased the camera was for $400.00, if the necessary paperwork was sent in before the expiration date of said rebate, which was May 30th. Ok? What I believe may have happened is due to the delay caused by the inattention, inefficiency or negligence of someone at this Advertising Checking Bureau, the original rebate may have been changed by Panasonic to a $200.00 rebate and I was just lumped into that grouping. That's the reasonable assumption. The cynical assumption, and I take a backseat to no one when it comes to being cynical, is that this was done deliberately. But as Jan Crittenden has said many times on this board, "I want to pay the rebate". Ok, Jan, I hear you, but that doesn't allow for the unethical actions of scumsucking slimebags whom Panasonic has hired to expedite certain tasks on your behalf and whose actions reflect poorly upon Panasonic. This, as I say, is the cynical view.

Needless to say, I refuse to cash this check. I want this to be resolved fairly. And soon. I must add that through this all Veronica Burks has been exemplary in her professionalism. She has always been quick to follow up on my phone calls and emails, and when she has promised something, she's done it.

Jan, I hope you read this.

EDIT: 5:10pm. I have just received an email from Veronica Burks saying that I should have received two separate checks for $200.00 each. She has asked that I don't deposit this item but to send her the number of the check in my possession, and she will look into this. I'm sure that she will; she has been, and continues to be, exceptionally helpful. This dreary affair may yet be resolved to everyone's satisfaction.

If you want my help, you have to identify your self with a real name. I just pasted your story into an email to Veronica, but she is manning a number of rebates and she may not be familiar with just this one. They ran of about 100 checks in the wrong amount.

So if you are just being shy a private message also works.

Thanks,

Jan

2 questions:

1) Have people been getting the rebate when using NewEgg? I'm thinking about buying from there but am a little worried I won't get the rebate.

2) Jan this is a question for you, which you probably cannot answer. Is there going to be a larger rebate at the end of this particular rebate... close to the $500 rebate at the end of the DVX100a? I'm real close to buying the camera but I don't want to miss an even better rebate deal.

Thanks.

As far as I am thinking there will not be a bigger or better incentive. As far as New Egg, I would say some do, some don't. Caveat Emptor.

Best,

jan

Hmmm... do you know the process that Panasonic has for doing the rebates?

Would Panasonic be like, "NewEgg... no not authorized," or would they say "Should this NewEgg guy get the rebate?"

I don't really see how it would work. I think I'm going to call NewEgg and tell them I'm only paying if I get Panasonic's rebate... that won't work. I'm going to do it nicer.

Thanks Jan.

I've received my $400 rebated, but not the book and Magic Bullet. Is there a website where I can check my status?

Thanks

Contact the Rebate folks, they also supply the book and software. Phone number is on the Rebate Claim form on the website, or I believe listed in one of posts below.

Best,

Jan

the number is 866-339-4296. i'm still waiting on my rebate, but i did have good luck with the book and dvd early on. i can't remember the name of the girl who is in charge of this account, but she is really sweet and was able to hook me up with that immediately when i called about it. i think she had it to me in less than a week.

alright still waiting on the rebate, finally got the book and magic bullet. But what's this? The magic bullet disc is not read on my g5! It works on my HP laptop though. What the heck man I don't have any NLEs on my laptop! ROAR!!!!!!!!

Hi Derrick,

A simple call to Red Giant Software would eliminate your entire problem on this.

Keep in mind that the reason that your rebate had a problem was because you did not initially include the UPC lable.

Everything works in the way it is supposed to, if it isn't working then there is a reason and all one needs to do is to explore where things went wrong. So with the Magic Bullet, it would seem that a phone call to the company might easily set you on the right road because we know the way it is supposed to work, and that is accross all platforms. So it isn't, why? A phone call will resolve everything.

Or send me a private message and I will send you Andrew's email address.

Best,

Jan

If one was to submit his rebate info online would he assume to have problems with not sending in a UPC label? The online form didnt say to do so, so I didnt. But if I am going to have problems... Also if the online rebate status says it was proccessed, then everything is fine?

Thanks

I also called the rebate center and was told that if I submitted online then I didn't have to mail in the form. Am I the only one who can't find the website anymore?

If you submitted on line, there would be no need for the UPC. Only those that are mailed in required you to do so. Your status is underway if it says processed.

Anyone know when a good time to call 866-339-4296 is? For the past 2 weeks I've been getting answering machine. No email replies, no phone replies. And what's this I hear about people getting a check for less than the $400/$350 (depending on what offer) they are entitled to?

Derrick,

Don't know the best time to call, but mine have usually been returned around
5:00 pm. Good luck...my 2 emails have both been returned promptly. Good luck!

Kyle,

I got an email last week saying they were out of stock and would get more in the end of this week. Then yesterday the extras came. My check came in today...completely unexpected. It's only been three weeks (I applied online when the website was still up and running). Go figure!

Bill

Did mine online on 08.04.2006 got the book and software 6 days later and got the check yesterday after 6 weeks and 2 days.

Best,

Rob

I spent all morning calling them. They finally called me back. They said they mailed me a check one month ago. Funny because in the message they left me last week it said they mailed it two months ago. Anyway now they're mailing a new check...we'll see...

Question:

Since my UPC was torn during packaging, what part needs to be sent?

Do I need to hack this box apart and send all the pieces, or do I just send the perforated lower portion of the UPC?

I don't wanna be disqualifed over some techincality.

Thanks!

Jeff
