realtime 3d motion tracking data

Ruairí, really was blown away by your film man - F^@&ing amazing job. Also seamless post - uttlerly flawless, well done.

as to the tracking - I imagine a unit which triangulates its own position relative to the camera and other markers would be the basic theory - and then sends constant spatial data to a hard drive recorder . That way you just pop a prime you know on the camera (say a primo 35mm) and - having all the above - the system would just require a script or plugin which would take that data and reverse engineer a camera move with nulls in place of the markers. that way, you just stick a receiver whereever you want a null.

Maybe GPS if it ever gets more accurate. Or the units could update relative to a master marker which would contain the master transmitter and the others would act as slaves (which you would place at the film plane at the camera) Theoretically this would act like a "localised" GPS system - giving measurements from one another. Perhaps Ultrasonics are the answer (like above ground sonar)

now all you have to is to determine relative heights and develop a coodinate system that a 3d package can read -next stop, 3d tracking nirvana.

Well done again on the film - really was impressed.
