Really Sharp Full Manual Lenses?

I love the oly 45mm and it's been one of the few lenses that I've been using, personally and professionally. It's AF (that's what you're looking for)

For manual lenses, I love the Focal 28mm 2.8 beats the Minolta Celtic 28mm. One of my favorite 50's is the Canon FD 50mm 1.8 very very cheap. I just bought a Canon FL 55mm 1.2 for a whopping $2,600.00 with a mint Pellix QL. I will upload samples soon. I must say this will be my last favorite lens! It's a lens to die for. that's just me.

Jeremy, the field of view of view of a 50mm lens on your GH2 would be the same as the field of view as a 100mm on a camera with a full frame sensor. But you are already getting this 2x crop on your 14-140mm lens. So if you zoom your 14-140mm to 50mm, that will give you a sense of what kind of field of view any of these 50mm primes would give.

I cheapy (or was cheap a few years ago) was the Carl Zeiss Flektogon 35mm f2.4. Mine came in m42. It also has a sweet macro focus too. Going price was around US$200.

By the way I'm interested in starting a Contax Carl Zeiss set. Heard many good things about them. Anybody know where I can find useful info about their use/market price/video DSLR application?
cheers

Zeiss / Contax SLR Lenses

These are essentially the same as the current Zeiss ZF / ZE lenses, but with Contax mounting, and slightly less robust metal housing. The image quality is very good over all, and you can sometimes find amazing deals on Contax Zeiss lenses. I thought about buying Contax mount for a moment, but decided to go Zess ZF Nikon mount because the Nikon mount is easily adaptable to almost anything. ( who knows what camera I will be using in 5 years )

The sharpest that I ever used was a Contax G 45mm F2. This thing was amazing, the down side was that the adapter it uses is a big pain. This guy never is never soft, no haze and no CA even wide open.

The Contax G has no focus ring so the adapters use a geared ring, that dose not quite feel right.

Ended up selling it, still not sure if that was a good idea. If you want something really good for cheap check out a Nikon 50mm F1.8 AI, $75-100 on ebay.

Here is vid of it.

I used to have that lens back when I was shooting film on the Contax G2. It really is considerably sharper than any other lens I've used or seen anywhere. It has the second highest MTF score of any lens ever. It also renders exquisitely. Wish I still had my Contax Gs, but had to sell them to get my first digital camera, the 5D Mk1. It was worth the swap! I moved on to the Contax Zeiss C/Y mount 50mm f1.7 which is also a beautiful lens, very similar, nicer in some ways, and much more practical. I am all about the Canon FDs these days, with fluid apertures. I can afford to own a set of them, which I never could with the Contax Zeiss.

The Voigtlander Nokton 25 mm f/0.95 is sharper @F0.95 than the Canon EF 24 mm f/1.4L II USM @F1.4 and sharper @F1.4 than the Canon @F5.6. Between F2.0 and F4.0 the 25mm Nokton is sharper than any lens Lenstip tested.

Hi, I had a Pellix QL back in the mid 70's with a 50 1.4 on it, and thought it soft with film, probably the pellicle was starting to degrade. What's the condition of yours?

Wow, my first SLR was the Canon Pellix QL with 58mm F1.2 when I was 19 in 1966 . I had the optional meter booster that went up to 12,800 ASA .

I had it used but in brand new mint condition. The previous owner hid it away during the Vietnam War that spread to Laos. There were several people wanting the camera but I just offered him the most money and actually gave him a point and shoot Sony WX9. :) The Pellix it's built like a TANK and feels very solid and sturdy, and very large and beautiful looking. The fl 55mm f1.2 is very amazingly sharp at wide open on my GH2. I thought it would be soft but very excellent at wide. The sweet pin sharp starts at about 2.8. I also bought a brand new unopened Hexanon AR 135mm 3.5 from the 70's for about $30 in Bangkok. My luckiest year!
