READ THIS BEFORE BUYING A DVX100a

See, other sites that I had looked at did not advertise those things (the rebate, extra battery, tapes) so it was a matter of not having the right information. I wish I had come to this site sooner :( I am still happy, though, that I now own a DVX100a :D

I ordered from A&M Photoworld and it is definately a Grey Market camera. But you know....I got the camera for $2900 OVERNIGHTED with a 2yr Mack warrenty and a 5600mah battery. I guess I'm just lucky in that respect - I asked if they were in stock and how fast they could get one out to me due to an upcoming shoot. It actually beat the tripod and bags I ordered from B&H a day or so before. Yes the salesman pushed hard on the extras like batteries (which he told me they send a test battery only....i was like wtf?) and I caved into the buy on the warrenty (which i suppose is from a reputable vendor) which he kept cutting down in price until it sounded reasonable to me.

links regarding a&m photo world

BBB NY - a&m photo world - better business bureau 'unsatisfactory rating by bbb' also dba. broadway photo and digital liquidators

RESELLER RATINGS - a&m photo world .30 rating! not even 1.0 out of 10!!! damn! 573 unsatisfied customers who left neg feedback, thats saying something!

i know how you must feel, finding all this out 'after' you bought. just a heads up for future purchases i suppose.
sounds like your camera is working and youre happy with it, thats the main thing.
hope that helped shed some light...
buyer beware. doh!

Broadway Photo (www.bwayphoto.com) a good store? I'm looking to get AG-DVC30, they advertise it for $1695. My first pick was to order from B&H but their price is $1900, the $200 is very appealing.

Dvx-100a $2895.00 After Rebate

Dvx-100a $2895.00 After Rebate

After getting so much great info from this site, I figured that I would use my first post to help members possibly save a little moollah. I don't know if their an authorized reseller, but a buddy and myself recently picked up 2 of these baby's for $3195.00 each before the rebate plus free shipping. It came with all the standard accessories as well as Magic Bullet software and the book. The vendor was www.supect vendor.com. I received the camera 3 days after ordering it. Also, if anyone is in the market for a tripod, I just picked up the Bogen 503/525 combo for $679.00 from B & H...happy shopping!!!

**This post has been edited to remove the name of a vendor that has a bad track record and is *not* an authorized dealer. In addition the poster just registered and this is his only posting, which makes the posting suspect. I apologize if this is not the case here, but we do everything we can to protect our users from dishonest vendors.**

hey hey...flagrant foul...only because it's my first post there's no need to discredit me by calling my post "suspect"...i don't know this vendor from a whole in the wall, I'm just sharing my experirnce based on a recent purchase of two units...that's why I put up a disclaimer sying that I wasn't sure if they we're an authorized dealer or not...if other's have had a bad experience, my apologies for even mentioning them, it won't happen again. Maybe I shouldn't waste my time sharing. I just figured it was the right thing to do since I have gotten so much from your forums...in any event, keep up the great work...

hey Rush...I'm out of town and don't have my Laptop with me and I can't look at the B & H site from my Treo...I picked it up on Tues. and it cluded the legs, the head and the leveler(no case thoug)...maybe it was an NAB special? As soon as I get back to town on Monday, I'll post the link if it's still up...it was a special though as that's what it said on their site...

No offense intended, but I have nothing to go on when someone has zero member history on the board. I've personally had a bad experience with that vendor and the sad truth is that a lot of the Brooklyn stores post phony user experiences on vendor rating forums. Sadly, we've also had a number of members ripped off and scammed by shady stores, so please don't take it personally. The fact that you even posted a second time leaves me to think you're a real DVXuser. So welcome to the board and I look forward to seeing you around.

Eh... I gotta' side with management on this one. Personally I don't think people should be able to sign up just to sell stuff in the marketplace either...

There are some pretty sh*tty places offering DVX deals that are too good to be true... and once they get your CC number it turns out they REALLY are too good to be true.

Hey Barry...you should check out their site...they're actally based out of New Jersey not Brooklyn and have a physical bricks and mortar address where you can tryout the goods...but if they're not an authorized reseller and folks have

had a bad experience I don't want to known as the guy who pushed them over the cliff...with that said i'll officially end this conversation...thx for the welcome! By the way I'm not a seller I'm only a producer/director trying to get the most bang for my buck...have you guys ever of having an offshoot of your site like www.dealmac.com but for DVX related production equipment and where to find the best prices?

Could you PM me with the address? I'm a big boy and can take care of myself. Not looking for a DVX, but I assume they sell other things, too. Right?

I guess I'm pretty risky because I bought mine off Ebay for $2300
came with a case, extra battery and UV filter. The warranty was expired, and it had a broken plastic piece which holds the focusing ring on. Only half of the focusing ring will come loose, so it still holds together. I brought it to a local shop and it was a very minor repair, so I guess I'm pretty happy with the deal I got, but it's pretty risky. Seems to me just go with EVS because they'll have your back.

And also, out of curiosity, does anyone know what the warranty covers? Like what if you drop your camera, get water on it, or take it to the beach and some sand gets in it?

The warranty covers repairs that are due to the camera itself breaking, through no fault of your own.

If you damage your camera, then no warranty coverage will apply (and that's true for any product, not just the DVX!) If you drop your refrigerator down the stairs, or dunk your hair dryer in the bathtub, their warranties wouldn't cover repairs. Same with the DVX. If it quits working due to some fault (a blown circuit, a snapped rubber drive belt, something like that) then they'll fix it. But if you take it into a hostile circumstance like a windy desert and sand gets blown in it, that's your responsibility, not theirs.

100% Accurate.

I do suggest that for insurance purposes, if a person owns the dvx for personal use (not business) to add it to their homeowners policy or renter's insurance. That will cover theft and fire, etc. Business owners can get business/production insurance which will cover damage on the job. It is expensive though, and most companies will not insure you if you just own the dvx.:undecided
