READ THIS BEFORE BUYING A DVX100a

Re: Here: The Absolute Lowest Price for the DVX100

Re: Here: The Absolute Lowest Price for the DVX100

It's gray.

If it was sourced from a US reseller you may have a warranty. If not, you don't. Did it have MBE in the box? That's usually a good clue, although unfortunately the gray-marketers are finding ways around that to deceive buyers into thinking they're getting authorized product as well...

People on here have said that "buydig" is not authorized but they've gotten good service and a true warranty. do you think they are ok? How long is the true factory warranty 1 or two years? I'd like to know what to look for. Thanks all, for any help

Re: Here: The Absolute Lowest Price for the DVX100

Their warranty may or may not be valid. The thing about unauthorized resellers is they can't guarantee their supply of product -- they are not permitted to buy directly from Panasonic US. Only units sourced from Panasonic US carry a US warranty, and Buydig (and other unauthorized resellers) cannot buy from Panasonic US.

The only way Buydig could offer you a camera with a US warranty is if they bought it under-the-table from an authorized reseller, to then turn around and offer it for sale to you.

Maybe that's what they've done. Or maybe they've imported it from another country to take advantage of currency exchange rates (which would mean no US warranty). If buydig's buying from an authorized reseller, who's to say that continues -- what if their source loses their Panasonic contract? Buydig can't guarantee their source of cameras.

So you may get lucky. Or you may not. Whereas with an authorized reseller, you know you're getting factory-sealed, fresh-from-Panasonic-USA US product with a US warranty.

Too good to be true?

http://www.expresscameras.com/prodetails.asp?prodid=58636&start=1

They've got the DVX100a for $2499 and the Canon GL2 (the camera I was oroginally considering) for $1499. Because of this pricing, I'm thinking I can afford the better camera but if this is a ripoff, I'm a bit nervous. Anyone know of anything about Expersscameras.com?

Re: Here: The Absolute Lowest Price for the DVX100

See that list of insanely priced junk accessories under the DVX100. Unless you buy a minimum of $1000 of worthless junk with the camera, they'll never sell you a camera. Even if they do sell you a camera, it won't have a Panasonic USA warranty. Here's a fun twist. You order the camera and $800 in junk accessories. Ding-dong! It's the delivery man. Open the box and find the junk accessories and no camera. The camera is on indefinite back order and you're the proud owner of $20 of junk purchased for $800. Do yourself a favor and give Rush at EVS a call. You'll get a fair price, a Panasonic USA warranty, and an actual camera.

Re: Here: The Absolute Lowest Price for the DVX100

There is absolutely no way on this earth (or any other) that they will sell you a DVX for $2499. It will not happen. They will pad the sale with a thousand dollars worth of worthless junk (just as Barry_S just said) so that you will spend a minimum of $3500 with them.

At which point you could have just ordered from EVS, and from EVS you'd get better service, no hassle, and an actual manufacturer's warranty, plus Magic Bullet for Editors and any other included items that Panasonic includes. And no worthless junk.

Re: Here: The Absolute Lowest Price for the DVX100

I've gone to Panasonic's site to find authorized resellers (including using the link from the first post in this thread) and all that happens is you get a cryptic drop-down menu, a place to put your zip, and then in my case three local places to buy. One of which no longer exists, another of which I know doesn't sell anything and the third of which is too far away to bother. Where is this magical list of authorized resellers?

Thanks!

Re: Here: The Absolute Lowest Price for the DVX100

Internet scams work as follows: they offer you the camera at an incredible steal, then offer you expensive accessories that you "can't do without." If you don't buy accessories, they inform you that the camera must be shipped from overseas and you must wait 6 weeks. They take down your credit card number, but don't charge it. Six weeks later, call them back and they'll have absolutely no record of your order. I believe it's called "bait and switch." Hear it from a victim.

Re: Here: The Absolute Lowest Price for the DVX100

Hello.

Ran across a "Manufacturer's Rebate" of $300.00 on the DVX100a over on Profeel.

What's up with that? Is that real?

I know that Profeel is not "authorized", so I was just curious as to how they do stuff like that?

thanks,

tony

Re: Here: The Absolute Lowest Price for the DVX100

Re: Here: The Absolute Lowest Price for the DVX100

Profeel is not authorized. However, they may have bought some stock from an authorized retailer, and are offering it for sale. I believe that if it's genuine new never-registered product that originated from Panasonic USA, then it might qualify for the rebate, but what if it doesn't? Why take the chance?

Thank you for the reply, Barry.

I also apologize, because I didn't see the thread about this over on the "news" forum until I posted my question.
