Re: World's First Electronic EF to NEX Adapter!

Thank you for all the interest generated and I wish to report to you on the million-dollar question - does it work on FS100?

With the helping hand of some generous folks, FS100 was tested with a Canon EF 50/1.2L. Rolled some footage and everything worked as advertised.

But here is the bummer. It did not work with the NEX-5N and NEX-7. I am going to have a series of sleepless nights to come up with a fix.

That's indeed a bummer for the Nex-5/7 owners...but right at this moment all I can do is jump for joy! Thank you for all your hard work bringing this product to life. For us Canon lens owners, it's a day of freedom -- ability to shoot whatever heck aperture we want!

Good luck with debugging!

That's great news! Man, I need to get one! :)

Since the first batch is sold out, is there a way to place an order now so we can be in line for the next batch? I went to the metabones website but there is no longer a purchase option, just an "Ask a question about this product" option. With it confirmed that it works with the FS100, I'd really like to order one!

Sorry but the waiting list system of our open source shopping cart software is not functional. Please follow 'conurus' on Twitter and you will be notified. Thanks!

Conurus, do you have any reassuring words about how tightly this adapter will mate to the lens?

I have bought too many adapters where it is apparent that the necessary quality in this regard is lacking.

You will have to do a better job than others in having tight tolerances, and a quality control program that rejects any adapters that do not fit tightly. Also you will have to study how many times the adapters can be put on and off until something wears out and prevents a tight grip.

Best of luck!

Another question Conorus... Any European sales planned? :)

I'd love to be able to buy this without having to bother with customs and tax calculations etc.

PS........If you need anyone with a couple fs 100s and lots of Canon glass to test it out for you for a month or so......
well, I'm your guy.

Anybody receive their's yet? Any idea when the second batch might be available for order? Much thanks!

If anyone who gets this adapter tries a Tamron 17-50mm please let me know if it vignettes badly and at approximately what width the vignetting goes away. I'm about to purchase a FS100 and on the fence if I order the kit lens or not. If my Tamron works well enough I could save a few extra bucks and just order this adapter. Also want to ensure that lens works on the adapter and the IS is on.

Tamron 17-50mm should have any vignetting. 17mm isn't all that wide on a sensor with 1.5x crop. Also adapters never cause vignetting unless it's one of those cheap adapter with a fake built-in aperture.

The most detailed information regarding this adapter is here:

The designer, Conurus, has actually posted a few times there. It seems like the first run had some firmware bugs in it, such as not supported a few lenses, and not supporting IS, though it is claimed to support these features. Metabones, the manufacturer from China, recalled the first set of units because of these issues, but overall those that have received it are pretty happy. The information they've publicly provided is refreshing relative to the other adapter makers, who seem pretty uncommunicative about their progress and products. Conurus seems to really want to work out the bugs and work with the public to get something that works well.

I do think that we should put our support behind this designer and company, if they can get the bugs worked out. Their concept is very sound, simple and at the right price point. If it supports IS it would be a no-brainer for me. I have some expensive Canon IS glass I'd like to use. It doesn't seem they have done a whole lot of testing with various lenses, and this will be an issue, as it seems Canon has a wide range of variables in it's protocol, and there seems to be a lot of reverse-engineering involved which requires the actual lens to guarantee operation with an adapter.

I have a feeling the more Canon EOS DLSRs and Camcorders are in my future, and the Conurus/Metabone is a good way to leverage both platforms. Going for an adapter in the MTF / Birger (vaporware) range starts approaching the point of diminishing returns, but the Conurus price point makes it pretty easy to get one.

I just got mine today. It seems well built and works as advertised with my 24-105 f/2.8 and 70-300 f/4.5-5.6. Aperture is controlled by the FS100 body (but the infamous Canon "steps" are still there), and IS works as advertised (still noisy though). In a quick test it looks like I can hand hold the 70-300 at full zoom and get acceptable image shake. With the kit lens I don't like the shake at anything past 150mm hand held. the image from both lenses is stunning, for a zoom of course.

I'm near the end of production on a doc where I did a lot of hand held shooting, it would have been REALLY nice to have this sooner!

I have got Conorus Smart Adapter.
It's perfectly build and just works.
