7D Re: 7D Mark II

Re: 7D Mark II

Looks like the speculative specs have been somewhat confirmed with a leaked image to boot...

What do you guys think? I know it is hard to judge without having used the camera, but based on what it may be on paper, what is your opinion thus far?

How much will you be willing to pay for this camera?

Will it be worth it?

Has Canon finally awakened up?

UPDATE:
Here is a good sample footage comparison between the 7D Mark II and 5D Mark III and 70D:

I feel for all canon DSLR users. Finally have 1080/60P in a DSLR when other manufactures have moved on to 120/240p framerates. I guess another 3yrs before you get that one :/

Great photo camera. This camera will be aimed at photojournalists. There are so many better options for Video users out there.

If Canon 'woke up' regarding video specs they woke up in 2011.

Canon clearly has decided to not do much with DSLR video. It looks like they want us to go to the Cinema EOS line for that. I bet Canon has a mirrorless camera coming soon that might have better video options.

But what the specs don't say is how clean the image is within the stated ISO range. It also doesn't tell us how good the dynamic range is. Also it doesn't mention how the Dual Pixel AF is implemented.

I think in order for the 7D Mark II to gain any level of credibility, it would have to have a SUPER CLEAN image throughout it's native ISO range. The dynamic range will have to be at least 13 stops and the dual-pixel AF needs to have ZERO hunting with super accurate object/face tracking (the 70D's face tracking got confused when there were multiple faces within the frame and on wider shots).

I am also curious to know what codec they are using and how the image is taken off of the sensor. And rolling shutter performance also, the 70D had horrible jello effects on even medium fast whip pans.

Being able to switch between different AF schemes/modes WHILE RECORDING video would be a HUGE plus as well.

We'll see.

The camera isn't released yet so this info wont be available until the true specs are posted and users test it.

Wow. On paper it looks like another Canon fail; they must be terrified to put 4k in a DSLR out of fear that Magic Lantern is going to hack it to shoot 4k RAW, so instead, they'll just continue living in the past.

The represantive in South America told me after testing that has Aliasing and Moire, not us much as the 70D but is right there, Probably Mosaic engineering will make an antialising filter for this camera.
T5i seems to be the only decent option in DSLR Canon has and that thanks to Magic Lantern Team, since they have not crack the 70D Yet.
Seems like Canon gave up this market for video, and gave it to still photography.

OUCH! Really? The new to-be-announced 7D mark II? I would bet a lot that they used the 5DIII's pixel-binning instead of the line-skipping moire-hell. It would be a huge surprise if they really stuck with aliasing and moire. I have high hopes for this camera.

The represantive in South America told me after testing that has Aliasing and Moire...

And a random guy at the bus stop told me that it shoots 4k.

Any Canon rep other than an engineer in Japan is full of, ahem, they don't know what they're talking about and just want to sound important. Maybe the camera will have some moire, since it is after all a 20mp DSLR, but I'm not putting any stock in the word of some anonymous "representative" far from Japan or even one of Canon's main markets (especially coming by way of a guy who wrote pages of posts about how bad the moire was in every Canon camera).

Oh yeah, the actual camera... It looks like an amazing stills camera for someone shooting sports. 10fps, fast AF. Very nice.
Let's see what the image looks like for video. Then we'll know what we've got here. Until then, it's all BS.

Yes seems like a great stills camera, this camera was tested at Brazil world cup, that is how this distribuitor got that information, Seem like we Canon users are some of the very few suffering from this
nasty problem, of course some monkeys don't even notice the problem. Sell Canon Gear to buy some bananas

I would assume the one used at the World Cup was a pre-production camera? Although most pre-production versions over the past few years have been super close to the final product (except for the Blackmagic Cameras with the black dot issue!)

If this thing has Moire/Aliasing then that is one strike off the bat. This thing really needs to sing in the Servo Focus department (for video) for me not to go with the A7S. I've been holding out on upgrading my camera until the 7D Mark II is announced, and I'm on the fence doing so.

I'm hoping there is more under the surface that we don't know yet. Like super clean 1080p with next to no moire and aliasing issues. Maybe even an image that is as sharp as something that looks like 4K downsampled to 1080p in camera. For me personally, this would be fine. I love the Canon look and my only real issues are moire, lack of headphone jack, lack of EVF and record time limit. Though I'm hoping that it wil have 4K output through HDMI like the A7S.

Aside from that, I'm disappointed to see the lack of a flip out LCD. But it is a 7D so....
