Raylight MXFX

1. How do I edit 720/25pn on Avid Xpress 5.7?

2. Can Raylight convert 720/25pn without quality loss into a with Avid editable format? If so which?

1. Use MXFX to convert 720/25PN to 720/50 and edit in a 720/50P
project or convert to 720/24 and edit in a 720/24P project.

2. Yes, see above. Both are lossless conversions.

mvb, I would like to know if the 25p to 24p conversions is only for 720p, or does it work for 1080p too?

Also, any time frame for the Mac version?

These are only Macpro compatible, and not Powermac, right?

Eventually the 25p/24P conversion will be made to work with all formats, however in the case of the other formats recompression will be required. The 720-line format is the only one that is more-or-less the same data format for both 50Hz and 60Hz cameras.

The Mac version is about a month away, and it will run on both
Powermacs and Intel.

Thanks for the information, mvb. As a Powermac user, is good to know you're still supporting us...

I'm really looking forward to the quicktime back to mxf/p2 conversion. this is in Raylight or in the new software?

Raylight for Mac (version 2 onward) does that with its P2 Maker function.

The new version of MXFX is online (1.03). It adds the capability to convert 720-line format clips to 1080-line format, and vice-versa.

For example, you can take a 720/24PN clip, upres to 1920 x 1080 and then apply a 3:2 pulldown, and this would allow you to bring HVX 720/24P clips into an Avid 1080/60i project.

I've been waiting for the mac version for a while.
Here's my question:

I have a 720 24 p native project (80 minutes long) it's all imported using FCP log and transfer so every file is has now the QT wrap.
Later this month we'll upres to 1080 and I'll be delivering a rendered QT of the whole to the Post facility.
Before that I would like to try the noise (grain as they say) reducer in some shots. Of course I have all the original MXF files backed up.
So, I'll find the original files and apply the 'reducer', how should I proceed to bring back to my QT wrapped project?
Could this become a problem later for my upres?

You would have to use log and transfer to make a new QT wrapper
or use Raylight/Mac to import the MXF files directly into the project.

As far as I know there should not be a problem doing an upres with such a project.

Thanks for the quick reply.

Just to clarify: when using log and transfer should I point at the original file?
Should I save the corrected (reduced noise) file and then import that?

Sorry for the dumb questions, I'm the director and cinematographer of the project and our editor has moved on to a new project, I'm not really familiar with FCP.
