OK, I know some have been expecting me to post my Shogun Inferno DNxHR clips/grabs from FS7/XDCA's RAW SDI output alongside the internal, XAVC-I version for comparison; sorry I didn't have time for that, nor do I see a point. I've been shooting, recording to the Inferno, and grading for HDR happily ever since I bought the recorder, and you just have to take my word for what I said: the RAW-originated Shogun recordings are great quality, otherwise I'd keep using XAVC...
Also, Atomos made it available with a fw lately to also record RAW (CDNG); even though for practical reasons I'm not going to switch from S-log3 to RAW, I did it a try of course and must say "wow". The IQ is even higher than DNxHR from the same source (i.e. FS7 RAW) - specifically the colors... And - just like before, when encoding the RAW SDI output to DNxHR - I would like to stress it here:
- no "lack of information" resulting in banding of shades, whatsoever!
I really am happy I purchased the Inferno; and to think I only made this decision with a B-cam in mind - not my main FS7 camera! Funnily enough, Iam still undecided about the B-cam, but that's a totally different story of its own
