FS7: RAW SDI output recorded in 4KDCI@50p on Shogun Inferno: good news!

OK, I know some have been expecting me to post my Shogun Inferno DNxHR clips/grabs from FS7/XDCA's RAW SDI output alongside the internal, XAVC-I version for comparison; sorry I didn't have time for that, nor do I see a point. I've been shooting, recording to the Inferno, and grading for HDR happily ever since I bought the recorder, and you just have to take my word for what I said: the RAW-originated Shogun recordings are great quality, otherwise I'd keep using XAVC...

Also, Atomos made it available with a fw lately to also record RAW (CDNG); even though for practical reasons I'm not going to switch from S-log3 to RAW, I did it a try of course and must say "wow". The IQ is even higher than DNxHR from the same source (i.e. FS7 RAW) - specifically the colors... And - just like before, when encoding the RAW SDI output to DNxHR - I would like to stress it here:

- no "lack of information" resulting in banding of shades, whatsoever!

I really am happy I purchased the Inferno; and to think I only made this decision with a B-cam in mind - not my main FS7 camera! Funnily enough, Iam still undecided about the B-cam, but that's a totally different story of its own :)

Nothing like just taking your word for what you said. That's what you call a contribution to the community. Thanks!!!

PS. Sorry - didn't mean to be rude in my previous post. But please understand:

- when I really put a lot of effort last year to illustrate my banding/compression artifact problems with the internal XAVC-I codec, trying to illustrate them with lots of screen grabs and/or links to my unedited clips (remember the "thin line accross the sky" thread?), 9 out of 10 comments here were deprecating, nonchalant and dismissive; it took people several months to find the same out by themselves and acknowledge. Nobody even cared to admit I had been right from the beginning... Not that it hurt my feelings - far from that; I'm to old and experienced a fart to be huffish or butt-hurt - but I just don't care so much anymore for proving my point.

- perhaps you do not realize, but an A/B comparo is not as totally easy as simply recording a test scene simultaneously on the Shogun via RAW SDI, and internally in XAVC; when the DCI 4K XDCA RAW output is selected the internal format is fixed at HD resolution, so the two versions would not be directly comparable

So yes - feel free to either dismiss my claims, or take my word for them :)

Cheers,

Piotr
