rattling noise

This is probably nothing, but I wanted to check anyway. When I tilt the camera forward something rattles inside, and it isn't any component of the tape mechanism. Anyone else notice this?

That only occurs when the camera is switched off. When you switch it on, it will stabilize and wont rattle any more.

I was thinking about that for 1 second :D But then I thought how I would have felt if somebody had told me that my golden camera is just broken ^^

Yeah- I miss the ol' days sometimes :)

For the record - the rattling noise comes from the OIS (optical image stabalizer).
It is disengaged when the camera is shut off, so it rattles around a bit when you move the camera. Like Nomis said, as soon as you switch it on, the system engages and the rattle goes away.

Welcome to the boards.

Don't believe anything you read here about the noise. I did a very scientific study and discovered that the noise was none other than the ghost of TV's "Bewitched" first Darren, Dick York. He's such a rascal.

You heartless zombies would have played with his feelings :( He would have been crying all night long and then finally killed himself. Who would you blame then? Poor Simon.... :D

I hope Panasonic keeps the same OIS system in all their future cameras. It's entertaining.

haha, the stress it causes when you have a new camera. I didn't notice it at first, then I'm moving it around thinking "wow...I already broke it"

I know that this has been covered a million times, so if you could link me that would help me out ----Shooting squeezed, I edit with widescreen settings and the footage is still squeezed as the final product. What am I missing?

Squeezed is just the weird name panny picked (instead of wide) for widescreen. It is native 16:9.

Just drop it on a 16:9 timeline and you will be fine.

Have you read that manual yet? :) Get Barry's book too, it will answer all of these questions for you in the first 100 pages of frequently asked questions section:)

manual? what manual? :) I'll read through it tomorrow, and I'm still waiting on Barry's book.

I finally figured out why there was never a stickie posted about this - you guys are having too much fun with the newbs.

(For the record, I e-mailed Panny support when I first heard my rattle, and was tersely referred to the manual page - you know - when you call tech support and are treated like an idiot)
